I stuck with leaf springs and regret it, I spent more time and money trying to get it the way I wanted it than if I would have went with coilovers and links to begin with.

The new pig I’m working on now is links and coilovers and will sit lower and have more travel than my leaf sprung pig.

Yeah I probably will end up doing coil-overs, but we'll see... I built a 1985 4Runner about 11-12 years ago. I went spring over and used the long Chevy main leafs in the rear with some Toyota leafs added to it. Allot of guys I know in the desert racing industry do that on their trucks with leafs in the back. I forget if the front leafs were stock length or longer ones. But overall that 4runner worked really good. I had to sell it when I moved to SoCal over 10 years ago. I hated letting it go because it had the Turbo EFI engine in it and I put Inchworm dual T-cases in it.

Congratulations!

I like that you have a 55 section on your website:

1979 Toyota FJ55 Land Cruiser

Thanks. Right now I just have a Toyota Land Cruiser category ( Toyota Land Cruiser ) and only a few posts of 55's in there like the one you linked to. I might have to break apart the categories and separate it for 55's, 40's etc. Especially since I have a pig now and will be posting more of them.. I recently made the forum live also. It still needs some work though.

I was able to borrow a trailer yesterday and we got the pig home safely!

Next up is the 2005 Tundra 4.7 V8 that I need to get here. It has the auto trans/transfer case with it but the rear driveline is centered and front is on the drivers side. I was thinking about using a set of FZJ80 axles but that wouldn't work with both diffs on the passenger side. A friend told me to look into an adapter from Inchworm to use the 79-95 gear driven transfer case since the drop is on the PS. I could use an 80 front and maybe use a mid 2000's 4Runner V8 axle for the rear. But Jason with the Supercharged 4.7 in his FJ55 (green and white one) told me they used a 2004 cruiser tranny and transfer case with 80 axles. It mates to the 2UZ engine. So I'll have to look into that option also. Any other ideas are welcome.

I picked up a few parts today. Both fenders in decent condition. DS has a lot of rust in the corner, PS not to bad. Rear tailgate panel that I was missing. Rear brake lights (need to find better lenses), rear side marker lights and stock seat belts that I was missing. I have another DS fender that I bought a couple weeks ago also.

I have a friend in NorCal with a 1996 FJ80 that I can get for a great deal. Getting it down to SoCal wouldn't be to much of a problem but storing it and parting it out would be. I'm going to see if I can find anyone that would want a majority of it minus the axles and a few other parts before I commit to it.

I'm probably going to use 80 axles and this one has e-lockers and the transfer case that I might need to use with the 2005 Tundra 4.7 V8 that I'm getting. I'm starting to price out a couple different trans/Tcase options that I could do with the 4.7. The easiest and possibly cheapest would be if I can stick with the stock Tundra transmission and transfer case that I'm getting with it. But I would have to do a front axle with the drivers side diff.

Looks like they threw a wiener dog in on the deal, hope you didn't pay too much!

For the Weiner?

Nope, that's Lucy and she's almost 12 years old.

It's sounding like the 96 FZJ80 I had the opportunity to buy for parts is falling through. Something weird with the registration and a lien on the title and the guy is just going to keep it now. I was hoping to get those axles, steering box and brake MC/booster soon...

We got the Tundra 2UZ-FE 4.7 in the garage Sunday. It's missing the fan and power steering pump so I need to buy those. The Toyota mechanic that originally put this engine in my friends company shop truck (Total Chaos Fabrication) is looking into the wiring for me. He said it might be easier if I find a dash wire harness for it to connect to the drive by wire gas pedal that I need to get. The alternative is to wire the DBW pedal directly to the computer if he can sort out the schematics. I've seen some swap threads in a few forums where people have done that.
The Tundra was a 2004 but they swapped in this engine that only has about 25k miles on it after they thought they blew up the first engine ( I guess it wasn't though). This engine might be a 2005, trying to figure that out. And I'm pretty sure the transmission is the A340F 4 speed. The 5 speed came out in 2005.

I also started buying some tools for doing the body work. It's been many years since I've had to do any body work but I'm sure I'll figure it out again fast...

And I just shipped out the extra fender I had out to Bobm. I'm trading him for a pair of patch panels for the fenders I'm using on my pig. When those get here I'll start getting those welded in.

Other than all that I've been looking around for some of the small parts I need for the build and buying as I have money for them.
