That is some awesome resto work! I took the easy way out and got a friend of mine to build me a body for my last 40. That request started a company called Aqualu in the TLC business. I wish I still had that 40...

Front doors

I have the usual rusty door bottoms, the outside worse than the inside. I cut out all rust and welded in new metal, this was harder than it looks as the corners have many bends and curves. I used a brake bender for the front bottom piece(see pic)

Lookin good vern. Cant wait to see it all done.

Windshield frame

Now i'm on the last piece i am going to remove to work on.The windshield didnt look too bad just some surface rust(wrong). Once i got it off the whole bottom was rotten and the bottom lip(three pieces of 16 ga squished together) was badly rusted as well.I also had rot around the wiper motor and the hinge mounts. The top 7/8 of the frame is like new.

For the bottom lip instead of going with the factory 16ga i went with one solid piece of 1/8 steel 3/4 in wide,it really beefs it up and wont collect water and rust. The front face i cut out and welded in new anywhere the metal was thin or rotted through. Looks like a patchwork quilt now but today i will grind down the welds and put some lipstick on this pig. When i am done i will seam seal any joint that could collect water and rustproof the whole inside and make sure any moisture that gets in there can drain away properly

Looks great vern! I might have to come get some tips from you... did you take lots of other pictures?

My windsheild frame/doors are moving up on my priority list quickly...

I think I'm going to put my hard top on at the end of the month so it'll be body work time for me!

Good work.

Thanks for keeping another gem from the junk yard/ parts bin!

Cheers,
Deny

Melted another patch in today then threw some paint at it.

Speaking of trailers,my trailer has some sort of goofy 5 bolt dodge pattern and i would like to some day convert to 6 bolt toyota.
What is the cheapest, easiest and most important the lightest way to convert??

different hubs if you can, but usually the trailer axles jump up a size when they go to 6 bolt...

sometimes you can get them redrilled if it's a big enough flange ?
