is that Dan Rochat(sp?)'s truck? kinda looks like his old rig. That tub looks like my old '81/42's tub, only yours is in better shape!
Keep up the good work!
cheers

I think it is. Has any one heard from him?

I got that hood from bikersmurf waaaaay better than mine.some surface rust and one small rust spot i will cut out.thanks b/smurf
also had my niece pick up some small stuff from ccot in dallas when she was down for xmas.

1/2 tub on truck in used Victoria

I mentioned it before but it might be worth looking at the aluminum tub. No idea what he would want for it.

You're welcome... Let me know if you need rear seats or a driveshaft. ;)

Good looking little rig....

Its official registered name is little red rusting hood but thats too long so it shall be known as "lil red". She came into this world in oct of 81 as a bj42 with a 4spd and no power steering. She lead a pretty easy life and was hardly ridden to the very low 200000k that is on the speedo now.Unfortunatly in the last few years she has suffered from rust and other ailments and was going to be put down.Dingo and i couldnt.stand the thought of that and rescued her and now are nursing her back to health.Hopefully we can make her at least roadworthy for our annual club run on new years day. The bad news is it looks like i will have to get a real job to pay for all of this.

Come over to the mainland and take this outta my yard. $150... probably less than it's scrap value :D

Progress Report

I priced out what i would need to repair tub from CCOT and i quit adding it up when i got over 1000.00 So i bought a welder and some 16ga and 18ga sheet metal and started in hacking and welding. I started on the inside of the tub first where mistakes were not critical.

After i finished with the inside of tub i cut out and welded in new floorboards for pass and driver front. I used heavier guage checker plate left over from my 40 tub repair and now they are stronger than new.

nice work Vern! :clap::beer:

I cant believe how much those pics look so much like my 42 every rust hole is almost identical.
Those vents are pricey last time I inquired at Toyo I think the guy told something like $80 let me know if you find them for cheaper I need a PS vent cover.

Dieseler- When i saw your rig i thought the same thing besides being the same colour the rust holes are exactly the same size and same position. Those vents dont exist used because everyone knocks them off first time in the woods and i have priced them out new at about 40.00 each.

The ironic thing is my 42 was sold from a Victoria dealership when it was new maybe it has something to do with Victoria air.

Billet aluminum vent covers would be tougher.

Now i am into the curvy pieces, its real hard to hold the metal drink beer and weld at the same time had to put the wand down and use magnets, didnt want to let go of the beer, might get knocked over.
I have learned lots of new things with this welding gig like-
You cant blow the fire out when you are wearing a mask. :o
Always wear a glove on the hand that is below the welder.:whoops:
Dont wear runners with holes in them and think the sparks wont go there :bang:

lookin good meng.

You do realize tho, that if you install that washer bottle ( tasty carlsberg btw...tak:beer:) yet another cruiser on the island will have the Official Crackwhore Taint. ( OCT.)

Don't worry, it's only mildly infectious, and mostly harmless.

I'm finally running out of parts from the old girl...kinda sad really...

Truck does look good tho. I got a huge ass driveway that's totally empty at the moment, and it's freakin me out. I'm probably going to do something I'll regret fairly soon to deal with it...

Nice Vern,

Welds are looking great... you picked that up fast. Welding body metal is the worst.... you'll have more fun when you build bumpers and work with real metal.

Non progress report

With the nice weather i have gone on to other things and parked the 42 in the corner and will get back to it in the fall. The cats like to sleep in it,spiders build nests and the flowers think it makes quite a nice greenhouse.

Im Baaaaack

After watching what Seapotato has done in such a short period of time, hacking and slashing burning and squirting(his words) i got the itch to start again. I started on something easy, the front bib. I was going to repair mine but as you can see from pre pics it was like swiss cheese so i got a used one in pretty good shape,a few wrinkles but no rust holes. I was just going to sand and paint but on close inspection i realized the wrinkles were rust between the front face and a piece of angle iron support at the bottom. So to do it right i had to remove the angle iron to remove the rust.I sawzalled each end of the a/iron then used a spot weld cutter(a must have tool for cruiser work)to remove piece and then remove all rust and paint . I then made up a new piece out of 1 1/2 in angle iron slightly thicker than original welded it in with new captive nuts and a squirt of primer. Now i just have to get it ready for paint.
