Sent some $ for the map light, I have George's 1st gen dome lights and love them. Thank you for making this happen!

Received my LEDs yesterday and was able to get the domes in right away.

Well packaged, and very fast shipping! LEDs fit and work great.

Thank you supercarrera!

got any more pics of the map lights in a dark setting? the current LEDs being sold on this site are insanely harsh and bright. it's a hazard to turn the light on while driving at night

I just have to ask...can someone explain to me what I am missing by not buying these lights? I must have missed something about them that justifies the price. One of the best things I have ever done to my LX is buy LEDs for map and both dome lights. They are excellent,, bright but not TOO bright and were only $4.50 each.

Sell my on these that are soooo much more expensive. Just curious.

Most likely R&D for proper fitment for the LC/LX, and special order means higher costs. Where did you buy your replacements and how was fitment? My original '99 LC resides with my pops in your neck of the woods Semmes/Mobile.

The LEDs I have are a 9 light pad (1"x1"). I just stick them with the sticky back and put cover back on. I really like them especially for the price. I got them on Ebay but they were not shipped from China, although maybe made there.

Oh yea, that's cool. I'm in Semmes all the time. My kids go to Faith Academy in that area. Know it well and I'm sure I've seen your '99 and didn't know it. I've seen them all but sure I'm the leader in LCs and LXs in these parts.:) Are you from this area?

My mothers family is from there "Howell clan" right there at Lot Rd/Box Rd. Too many to count cousins, aunts and uncles still live in the area..all salt of the earth good loving red necks. My (Filipino) pops LC is an all black LC with "G" tag on the front, although I think he pulled that off.

Got all the two domes and map in last night. They look great. Thanks much for putthing this together. Now to wire the map light to the door switch!

Glad you guys are liking them!

Here's a couple of shots when I was camping at MotoGP a week ago to give those without them an idea of the luminosity.

I’m not an electrical engineer but I’ll try to explain this to the best of my knowledge. :)

The cheap LED modules found on ebay usually do not have any circuitry to protect them against the irregular voltage spikes found in automotive electrical systems. LEDs are extremely sensitive to high currents, so without adequate protection, they typically burn out and die. Sometimes, there is no polarity protection as well so that connecting them incorrectly will result in damaged and burned out LEDs. The extent of the circuitry on these modules is typically only resistors to limit the current to a level the LEDs can handle. Much of the electrical energy flowing through the circuit is lost through the generation of heat by the resistors and is not very efficient.

The LED’s I’m selling have circuits designed by someone who builds LED drivers for a living and contain circuitry to protect against the voltage spikes common in an automotive electrical system. They basically regulate the current and voltage so that the LEDs are better protected, last longer, and run more efficiently. I have a set of first generation LEDs I bought from George that I bought around six years ago that were still going strong when I pulled them to install these new ones.

The LEDs I’m selling also should have better quality light output. There is a big difference in the type and quality of light waves coming from a quality emitter made by Cree and a generic one used in the low cost modules found on ebay. The ones I’m using from Cree have a high color rendering index, which is a quantitative measure of its ability to reproduce the color of objects so they look natural.

I'd rather have led lower door lights before reverse lights so that all my interior lights matched.

Payed last Wednesday, received last Friday... very quick turn around :)

I'd previously had LEDs from pfran42 which were *much* brighter than stock; I'd had them for a little over a year and each of the panels had one burned out LED -- I believe there were 48 total - they are his older style lights. My complaint with the lights I'd previously had was that they hurt my eyes -- color temperature and the light didn't seem entirely steady --- like they flickered extremely fast, almost unnoticeable but enough to hurt my eyes after being used for some time.

New LEDs installed very quickly and without the funky adapters I'd previously needed. I'd say that they're about the same level of brightness as pfran's old lights (again, I can't compare to his new) but the color temperature is much better and I can leave them on without hurting my eyes. Everything looks more natural and the interior lights up very well -- the map light is also *very* bright.

I'll try to snap some pictures comparing both tomorrow night.

Scott,
Excellent explanation.
I have George's first gen and they are still working.
However, the LED lights in the doors are generic from some place on the web or from someone here.
I don't remember exactly.
The lights keep burning out or flicker after few months.

What is the solution to the door lights?

Scott, will you addressing the door lights next?

Rami

Yes, I plan on figuring out a solution to the door lights next and eventually the reverse lights. My 94 doesn't have door lights so I need to get my hands on one to see exactly what they look like.

Scott
