Please welcome new member Darius L Taylor (@DTSkyCop).

Darius owns a 1980 FJ40.

Welcome to the club Darius. Please tell us more about yourself, your Land Cruiser and post some pictures of your ride.

Thank you so much, I have been a member of TLC for a while and NEVER realized there was a sepaate Chapter Membership for CSC until I paid closer attention to the signature boxes of some member here on MUD, in the CSC section, and saw they had CSC Membership #'s... I asked myself; Self, how did they get that CSC # and went off looking closer in the CSC Section and on the internet itself! I found the separate CSC Webpage and all the information there, so NOW I am finally a member. I hope to get out on the trails with everyone in the near future. I have been paying attention to the ROTM section to see if I could attend etc.

About me, I am a retired Scottsdale Police Officer of 24 years, (Please do not hold that against me and revoke my memberhip! lol) I am currently still in law enforcement in a different capacity working for the state. I have been married to my wife Colleen now for 24 years. We have four boys, one who owns a 1986 Toyota 4Runner he is always tinkering with. He might join as well on some trip(s) in the future. My oldest boy is 23. His brothers are 20, 18 and 16... My wife is a Special Education Teacherin Scottsdale Unified School District and will might join me on some of our trips, but for the more part lets me have my fun with my Old-NEW Toy!

I purchased my 40 as a retirement gift to myself when I retired from SPD. I had worked on them with a good friend of mine, Dave Robins and had seen the simpleness and utility of this vehicle, and how much fun they were. Again, I said to myself... Self, I want one of these! Having four boys, I could never afford it.... So, I planted the seed early with my wife, for the purchase of my 40 when I retired, and low and behold.... I got it!!! :)

My 40 is stock, so I have to be choosey and pay attentin to the trails you are going on, but I am looking forward to getting out with everyone and seeing Arizona in my Old-NEW 40... My 40 was apparently an Original Arizona 40, and was sold to an owner in Texas. He got it and painted it Red. It was later sold to another owner in Texas and painted back to Original Color # 416 - Dune Beige. It was then sold to the owner I purchased it from who was a Mud member, who had it a couple years before selling it to me. The cruiser is back home in Arizona where it was apparently originally purchased. The paint looks good, but has a few spots where red is visible under the Beige, and will be a candidate for a better paint job in the future! I am fine with it for now it does llok pretty good, and the body is straight. There are no rust issues, and everything is stock as well. It appears to be all original! The engine is stock and smogged!

I have met Claudia aleady as I purchase a rear disc brake conversion from her about a year ago. I have not installed it as of yet, due to a neck-back injury I had been dealing with for the past year. No fun! It is finally getting better, and will be tackling that brake project soon! Right now, due to the fact my cruiser was neglected (not run) for a few months, I am dealing with a no idle issue. Cruiser starts up no problem under choke and when I turn the choke off it dies. I know it is the idle circuit, and I am cleaning that today in hopes of not having to pull the carb. I might need to pull the carb and rebuild it however... Either way, I am working on that today and wil see which way I need to proceed! if I need to order a carb kit, any suggestions on where to get a good one?

Thank you for the welcome and I look forward to meeting everyone. Here are a couple pics of my 40,

Is that the same Dave Robins some of us know? Is he a Toyota mechanic?

That is him... A Toyota Master Mechanic, he works up at the Toyota Dealership in Lander, WY now! He and I use to wrench on land cruisers late in the evening, and on weekends after I would get off work... 40's, 60', 62's, and even some 100's I believe! Then we would fly and hunt together as well! Sucked when he up and moved to Wyoming... But I am sure that was the same Dave! :):steer:

Yeah, we use to do a lot together, I have seen a lot of Arizona hunting with Dave and driving around the backroads of AZ in his White Toyota 4X4.... Definitely sucked when he left for sure... Very knowledgable about Toyota's and Land Cruiser's in general...

and for the carb kit: cruiseroutfitters.com

Bummer Claudia, I figured I might have gotten one from you, you were not using... :) Oh well, guess I will try CruiserOutfitters.com

Thanks, I look forward to seeing you out on the trails! :steer:

nope, I only got one for a '69

sent you a private message - look in the upper right corner by your name

Best 40 series color

I searched for a Dark Green one forever and had no luck at the time... Then I saw this and fell in love it with also... I definitely like the color for sure!! The original color is Dune Beige, but think the PO that painted it actually did not paint it Dune Beige but just a Beige... I show you what I mean someday soon when you see it!
