I'm blaming all you guys in this group buy for the delay in getting my cooler basket from Luke 
I don't mind the delay. I just don't like the lack of communication. Three unanswered emails and one unanswered voice mail over a period of several weeks. I understand they are a small shop but how long does it take to respond with "Hey we're running a few weeks behind".
He should just setup an auto response of "Hey we're running a few weeks behind." 
I got my DIY kit yesterday. It was missing a couple of small parts, I blame fedex, but Luke was very quick to respond to my email and has the replacement pieces on the way. This will be worth the wait.
It will indeed be worth the wait, and Luke is a stand-up guy. Ya, waiting sucks, but in this case it's worth it.

No excuse, absolutely zero, for multiple people that have sent multiple emails/calls over multiple weeks to not get a reply from someone they paid their hard earned money to. Sorry but it doesn't matter how busy you are. It'd take <10 minutes to reply to 20 emails stating you're running behind.

I wonder why Luke is "on the fence" about group buys? On one hand he gets a lot of business. On the other, he gets substantially less profit per unit and people upset by his crew not meeting their normal turnaround time.
Since the group by was put together on this thread, perhaps he feels the occasional response to some of the group buyers will make it into the thread. I have no association with 4x4 Labs or Luke, but may want to get in on a group buy at some point. Are you concerned he's taking the money and running off to Mexico? Aren't you content with the updates in this thread? (That's rhetorical. Obviously you aren't.)
Similar stuff has gone on with previous group buys. Call it part of what you get with the discounted price. If he was shipping product below his usual quality, I could see being wound up. The low communication isn't really putting me off from hoping to get in on some future buy.

It's inportant to remember that the guy is a firefighter in his day gig. I can understand if he doesn't have a ton of time to reply to everyone.
The last time I talked to him, a few weeks ago, he mentioned that the front of the shop looked like a yard sale because of so many bumpers going out. Ordering just kits is one thing, but ordering them built and/or powdercoated takes much longer and in the case of powder coat, he has no control over it.
In the end, everyone gets their bumpers and it's come a long way from the days of sending your whole truck to his shop for a custom bumper. Now you just send some PayPal info.

LOL. Since when? Luke is no firefighter. You are thinking of Ken Hanna who is no longer in the business. Luke is a good dude and basically a 1 1/2 man show. In my experience he is 100% honest and not looking to rip off anyone. Group buys like this no doubt tax his capabilities. Be patient though, because his stuff is great.
Remember he is is the chief cook, designer, bottle washer, creative genius, floor sweeper and tech nerd behind 4x4 Labs. He is stretched pretty thin. Email may not be his priority today.

I live close to 4x4 here in Grass valley. I can assure that Luke and his crew are working hard and making sure each and every one of the items are of the highest quality or he won't let them go out. Good things take time, my point is let him put the time in on the fab side and not into the computer he will not disappoint you .
I was calling Luke for several reasons. I wanted to go ahead and add the Ladder with swing out jerry can holder. My shipping address may change since ACC is in the middle of finding a new location. I wanted to make sure Luke wasn't waiting on me to pay the remaining balance. Am I suppose to pay the remainder whenever or wait for confirmation that the bumper is ready to ship to pay the balance?
