WAY TOO MUCH

I feel bad for the sucker that pays that much if the seller is lucky enough to find that person.

it better have a beer tap and unlimited BJ's for that much...

hell ya thats the truck i want!! tell me when yo find it! Ill go halves on it with ya!

in the ad it says do your homework... so if i did my homework and proved he is a liar do i get a discount?

What's that license plate? Truck is supposed to be in my neighborhood ....

Maybe I am missing somthing, but if you want a desiel truck I dont see how you can say this truck is WAY to much. How much is "WAY"? If you look at the spread sheet from Proffits I dont see how you can convert your own for that price.

http://www.proffittscruisers.com/diesel/cummins/sample_estimate_FJ80.htm

If you really want 4bt then you will spend more than this getting one built with the truck. So I am just curious how much is "WAY" to much. 5K, 10K,??

I would say 8-12K depending on the truck is probably reasonable... I don't know where the heck Proffitts are gettings their 4BT's but I can buy a bread truck for a little under 2K right now. Once I sell all the aluminum back, and sell the D70 and tubro 400, I've almost got a free engine. The rebuild kit from cummins is under 600 bucks. Figure 500 for machine work and you've got a brand new engine. Add a 6BT inner cooler and you have your 120HP and 350 ft-lb. Even if you buy the engine straight from Cummins its only $5600, I checked...

if i paid to have it done i wouldnt personally spend more than 15K for all parts labor and everything and that is really kinda pushing it. but i can also do the work all myself and find the parts much much cheaper than $or has listed.

now that being said you will never get what you spend back out of a vehicle when it is something like that. and even if you did I personally would only value the truck pictured (assuming pre conversion) and sight unseen maybe 4-5k (price is in the eye of teh beholder) and then add 15k for conversion so thats 20k. thats like saying that after i have my toybox and im SOA on some 38's my truck will be worth over 15k+ easy cause of everything invested (now i do my own labor so assume labor charges are added in there to get that price) in good shape being a reasonable price i would say 10- maybe 15k MAX for mine if it was rust free better interior and lots less dents and a new paint job. check our clasified section and see what people are sellin theyre trucks for.

so after all that being said the truck listed sight unseen assuming rust free maybe 8-12k with a good interior and okish paint

my $1.50

i seen a bread truck on craigslist the other day with a 4BT and a blown tranny and rough - poor body goin for 1500 motor ran. though bout buyin the damn thing but i dont have enough room for something that big being all cut apart here at the house.

Thanks for the replies. I'm always torn when these rigs come up for sale. I have neither the time nor mechanical skills to pull off a swap on my own. And, as some people noted, shops like TLC and Profitts charge upwards of $20k for diesel swaps.

Market Value, in the end, is a hard thing to determine.

I'm pretty sure David pay less ( far less ) for the ex Princess ..

Princess was / is also Sprung over, 37" MTR's, Toybox and all around nice capable rig. good lookin paint still ect.
so that says alot.
I have no idea what he bought it for but i know he sold it for quite a bit.
Actually i think the prices were very close if not the same as what the guy above is asking for his mildly lifted and not so special looking truck for sale.
24K can buy alot and i think princess had alot to offer (dunno that i woulda paid that but she is nice) this other truck listed im sure would be great and awesome but just not in that price range.

:meh::popcorn:

Why not look for a BJ60 or a HJ60? Although not powerhouses they are diesel powered and will give you almost twice the fuel mileage compared to a FJ60. Besides there are lots of guys here that have installed turbos on their BJ/HJ60's.......

I've looked at importing a BJ/HJ from Vancouver but keep running into a few key issues:

1) Rust
2) I've been warned that sourcing parts when things break can be a major pain

is it me....or anyone else wonder about this.

ad says less than 800 miles since swap. why do it then???? trying to flip it and score big??

For discussion sake lets talk about this thought. I know that we dont know a lot about the truck but it looks good from the limited pic and has a 5spd and what looks like the procar seats that IPOR sells. Lets also assume that when you price something at a correct level that the price will be at a point where you have a several people wanting to buy it, but not so low that you give up money because everyone is lined up to buy it. Again, If this truck is clean, you really think that in the 8 to 12k level that it would only have a few interested buyers?

Using the same approach as the real estate market. A good way to see what something is worth is to see what similar items are selling for. I have not seen any 60's or 80's with 4bt's in them selling in the 8-12k range. If there are then I would like to see some examples for my own learning experience.

Just thoughts

I can uderstand why you would not want this at this price. You appear to have the ability to do this on you own. On the other hand most of us cant. If I have a 5sp clean 60 lets say that I have 3K in( those are easy to find.) I buy the bread truck, get it hear and part it out, get you the engine for free to me, $600 for the kit. Lets say I am at 4k. You will do the install for me and all the associated parts left I will need for $4k? If I buy the $5600 enging then you will install it for how much.

The reason for this line of thought is that even thought you can do all this you will still have how many hours of time involved in this swap and how much is your time worth. I think I am way light on the figures used. If the truck is clean then 8-12 is a steal.

I am really wary to enter this thread, but having gone through this process once and in the middle doing a second engine swap I can say that it is not the PARTS, but the LABOR that's the coast in these conversions. And of the PARTS, it's not the ENGINE but everything else that you hve to buy to get the engine to work in the FJ60 that's expensive. When I stuck a cummins in my pickup, the parts other than the engine cost twice what the motor cost. And the labor cost twice what the motor cost. The motor is the cheap part.
