OK so heres the scoop.

Scott (DieselFJ) who started another thread on here when he bought and brought home a 78 FJ55 stated that he needed a few things on the new 78 to get it ready for his family. He is trying to bring it closer to stock condition.

I have a 1979 FJ55 that is mostly stock, and I am moving in a different direction with mine and have some of the parts that Scott needs. And we live within 50 miles of each other. Pretty convenient huh?

So Scott is coming over sometime this week and we are going to swap some parts around and see if we can get him set up. But herep is the kicker, neither of us really know what the value of the parts are that Scott needs. We both just want to make sure it is a fair and square deal for both of us.

So I thought I would start this thread and get some help from folks who I am sure know more about this than I do. I am kind of new to the pig scene. And I thought it would be a good way to show Scott some pictures of what he is looking for so that he can make sure it is what he wants.

So right now he is looking at getting my OEM factory power steering setup. I would assume that would include the whole thing from box, rods etc....I didn't take a picture of this because I figured there is not much difference in one from another.

Front Bench seat. Pictures follow. It looks to be in OK condition. It has a SOR cover on it and until I took the pictures I had never taken the cover off. There are a couple of tears on the drivers side, the passenger side looks good. I can tell you from experience that the springs are not that good. But then again I am a heavier guy and get that alot on any seat.

Tires and wheels. I believe these to be original wheels and hub caps. They are in great shape from what I can see. I have a set of five. The tires look to be almost brand new and are 33x9.5 R15. They have a pretty aggressive tread as you can see.

So if you guys could give us some idea on value of these three items we would really appreciate it. Even a range to look at would be great.

Thanks everyone.

your P/S set up is priceless, why are you going to get rid of that that?

Wait, I'll give you $50 for it

The steering shaft from manual to power is a different length, you need to include that with the set-up

the only diffrence on the 2F for factory P/S is the block was drilled and tapped for the pump bracket on the '79

I missed one that sold locally for $100. :crybaby:

The steering shafts are different for piggies? is it just the small driveshaft is different length, or is it from the firewall to the steering wheel.

I have a manual steering shaft, if anyone's interested

Cruisermoose, you're another local guy with pigs that I don't know. Why is that? Also why in the world would you take power steering off? What direction are you going? For comparison I sold a set of front and back seats from a 74 pig for 250 that had no rips or tears and in pretty damn good condition. Am very curious about your plans with your pig. It looks pretty clean and nice around the wheels....

FJ55 steering shafts have a couple of U-joints in them.

Hey uglyoinker, it just isn't right that we live this close with piggies and didn't know it is it?

My plans are no where near set in stone for the 79 but my thoughts at the moment are to put 60 series axles under the pig, run a 5.3L engine with 4L60e tranny and Orion T/C for starters. So my plans included swapping out the factory power steering for saginaw or similar type p/s.

I am always open to differing opinions!

If your '79 body is clean, you'd have a pretty collectible vehicle with factory PS.
It looks pretty darn nice in those pictures!
'79 was the last year for Pigs.
I have heard rumors of there being a few 1980 Pigs out there, but I haven't seen anyone offer proof of this elusive "Ghost Pig"
Does your '79 have AC as well? Can't tell from your pictures.
You might want to think about finding an older Pig to modify. If those pics are your Pig I would be hesitant to change it up that much!
Same applies to the bench seat and
Sorry to complicate life, just wanted to offer opinion!

Hey PabloCruise,

No worries, I am ALWAYS open to advice and opinions. Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind. And if I was a man of means (and space, and time and....) that is what I would do. I also have a 76 pig that is highly modified and I have thought about keeping the 79 as is and making it a daily driver or such. But this is my one chance to make my dream pig and I didn't think there was any better platform for me to start with than a clean 1979. I hope I don't regret it one day.

Here are a few shots of the old girl. Garage shots and not very good but as you can see, it is very clean. One of the best I have seen around.

Kyle, that is one nice looking 55, I wish my 79 was even somewhat close to that condition, at least my 78 comes close, but still way off. Instead of selling me the parts from your 79 lets just make a straight trade, my 78 for your 79:D anyway, it will be fun to watch the transformation of your pig, just keep posting so we can all enjoy. Anyway, thanks again for your time and your help in making this deal work.

Scott

Wow, I would think long and hard about modifying that Pig.
Anyone know how many '79's were brought to the States?
How stock is it?
Does it have AC?

I think less than 1000 '79's came into the States

Could be wrong, but I think that's what Marv told me.

What's the 76 look like?

Pablo, stop it, you're killing me! ;)

I have thought long and hard about this. I like to look at it as doing my part to preserve the 79's, I am just adding a few parts here and there while I do it. And no, unfortunately it does not have the factory A/C. I guess in 79 it wasn't required like it is today.

UglyOinker, here is a picture of the 76, it doesn't look much like a 55 anymore but I promise it is. And no, the 79 will not be modified this much. :D

After seeing the 76 now I know who you are. It was at Proffitts for a bit. Did you build it yourself?

If those wheels are the disc version, they should be in demand. Those tires are very long lasting, as I have the same set on my truck.

No I did not build it myself. Wish I could say I did.

I am in the middle of stumbling my way through a frame off FJ40 build right now and so my skills are no where near that level.......yet.

Yep, it was at Proffitts for a few months.

what's your build plan for the 79?
