Need to put a header on the 72 1F in my Pig. Not sure which one to get. I'm not a hardcore off roader, don't need a Downey. Can someone recommend another reasonably priced brand ? Thanks !!! :grinpimp::grinpimp:

Why not just stay stock? Gonna be a lot easier and is gonna work a lot better.

If you don't need more power I say stay stock.

Wouldn't mind staying stock, the stock manifold is cracked and several of the bolt holes are broken off. All of the Toyota stock replacements I've looked at
were higher than an after market header.

I've tried a couple of headers over the years, I got the Downey header now, like it the best. Works fine on my daily driver. I thought it was reasonably priced....

Pighead......did you have to relocate/alter any engine parts in order for the Downey to fit ? Have read some have to move oil lines.

Oil lines? what oil lines? I don't got no stinkin' oil lines. I've never had an early F engine. But now that you mention it, maybe you would...or at least change them to stainless oil lines...

I wonder if TPI 4x4 would be cheaper than SOR? They're in Tennessee. Speaking of stainless oil lines....I wonder how many piggies run them:hhmm:

I'll look and see what I have.

For what you are going to pay with header you could buy a good used manifold and have it ceramic coated for the same price.

My 3/'70 pig has SS oil lines. Seem to work fine. PO relocated/swapped out originals. Had them on there for 10+ years. No complaints.

I have heard lots of complaits with folks runing headers. I have classic 6-1 headers on both my pigs. They work great as long as they don't leak. I dig 'em.

Thanks Carlos...one of my originals outer sheath is shredded so I ordered some up. Not sure about my guage cluster working yet and I didn't want to take a chance on a blow out on old lines--dave

The engine in my pig is from a 72'. My stock manifold was rigged for too long and needed replacement, so I put in some headers recently. I ended up buying the MAF 6-1 headers and put about 1500 miles on them. The new ones have a 2 piece flange and are under $200. The flange was very close to the thickness of my intake manifold. I've re torqued the bolts twice and have never had leaks yet.

The were not exactly a direct fit, but I am happy with them so far. They barely touched the oil pressure regulator on the side of the F block, so I had to ding a pipe with a ball peen hammer to get it clear. The oil lines were really close to the headers, too close. A 90 degree brass fitting from the hardware store fixed that.

The collector flange is thicker on the MAF headers now, but it still bends easy. I had to use a thick aluminum gasket to get the collector to seal after the flange bent. The manifold gasket that comes with the headers is a low quality unit. Get a new F manifold gasket from the Toyota dealership. You'll also have to have your exhaust done properly, as it is kind of a tight S bend around that rear mount.

Mark A. sells the Downey header. Whoever you get a hold of, it'll be the same.

Bringing back up and old thread.

I might have to buy some headers. I have a 2F from a 83 60 in my 76 Pig. I'm looking at the Marks Off Road headers and have a PM to Jim to see if he has any of the old Downey headers left.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. I found the header on Mark's website for $325, a pretty good price. I'm gonna look into options a bit but this is probably the way I'm gonna go. If I had know my dang manifold was cracked I would have bought the new Toyota OEM manifold combo, or at least a header to start!

The 74 pig I just bought has headers. 6 into 1. Look a little like SOR, but not. And not MAF, I'm pretty sure. But they work well, and I have had headers on the 40 for 10 years.

I would do a search on JT Outfitters before ordering anything from them.
