This past October I purchased this 1976 with a 350 in it. A locally known truck and built over many years by the previous owner. Its known for the Stone Temple Pilots Greatest Hits being stuck in the CD player and therefore becoming the soundtrack of any and all wheeling trips. Having always wanted a V8 40 I couldnt pass it up as it was in my back yard. It had been sitting for quite a long time but was running. I have no major plans for a different engine or anything major like that. Several minor upgrades, cleaning and maintenance. I say that now but who knows. Picture 1 is the day I brought it home. Picture 2 is the repainted bumper with new tires. I re-did the cooling system as the radiator was leaking and installed a new fan. Changing some wiring and dealing with fairly minor corrosion. More pictures to follow. Many thanks to the PO who still answers my questions.

Saw this bad boy at Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan a few years ago. It was built for dune running. Cant recall what V8 it had in it but was in beautiful condition. The guy lived over near Detroit and hauled the truck over to the dues to run regularly.

She arrives today from SoCal!

There seem to be A LOT of Chebby V-8 conversions, not so many Cadillac V-8's...
I did my "V-8 Conversion" when my 1974 (bought new Dec 1973) LandCruiser was all of four years old (1978).. I had done FIVE Valve Jobs (in 200K miles) by that time (all because the same burned #4 Exhaust!) I "fixed" the problem by shoehorning a VERY dependable 1967 429cid Cadillac V-8 & TH400 (w/shift kit) into my FJ40. I logged over 300K trouble-free miles until the engine wore-out! I "parked" the LandCruiser 1992/93!
As we say in Texas.. "I'm a-fixin' to" rebuild the Caddy V-8 & TH400, go thru ALL the Running Gear, install a four wheel Disc Brake Conversion, ft & rear TJM Pro (air) Lockers, install the Scout Power Steering, remove and repaint all the sheet-metal, replace ALL the dried-out w-stripping AND get my "Half-Million Mile FJ40 LandCruiser" back on the road!!
Charles.

Came with an F- it wasn’t bad, but the three speed drove me nuts. So I pulled the SBC and SM465 out of a 1978 Blazer. Came with a Quadrajet- Poor man’s fuel injection. It ran pretty good at most angles. All the power I needed…

Stumbled into a $400 LS (I’m pretty sure I was only $1500 into the hole swap). I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the carb- let alone the F. Sorry if that offends some, but that’s my opinion. Thing just purrs down the highway. It’ll do 70-80 and I can lug it on the trail. Basically stock tune and headers.
