in the passed I tried to make contact with several companies on finding out about the possibilities of having a rear sliding window made for the FJ45 series Landcruiser with no real hope until today. I received a call from a company (name at this time will remain anonymous for now) that are interested in possibly making a rear slider. No quotes will be given until I give a little more information on size. Well I now have my rear window installed in my rig and need to ask anyone out there who has the rear cab window removed if you could take a few measurements and reply.
Measurements needed are -
the inside lip, about how tall is it, 1/4" or 1/2 " tall. Only the area that is flat, the area were it starts to widen is not needed. See photo.
Second -
If you measure from the side of the lip to the surface of the rear of the cap, how deep is it. You may have to take a straight edge and lay it across the surface and measure to the lip. I guess around 1/2" but that's a guess.
Any questions on my measurements needs, please feel free to PM me.
Also I am not sure as how many are required to be made as a minimum order, but just in-case this starts to look good and the price is right, how many of you folks may be interested in an order, that's interested, no obligations.
The biggest concern the gent I am working has is with the corner radius. He seems to think that this may be the real challenge due to tooling in the industry now is not set for a 1.75 corner radius. He is trying to see if his company still has from years ago that equipment to were they maybe able attempt in making a demo piece and sending it to me or maybe one of you that may have your window out to see if it is a good fit in the corner. Sorry that's all the information I have for now but will keep you informed as I am informed, thanks in advance.

I'm interested! :bounce: obviously cost with freight to Australia will play a part in exactly how interested I will get but I am liking this idea. I seen one for sale on oz ebay but the aluminium frame looked shagged, so I passed on that one. It would be awesome to have a rear sliding window. Heaps of benefits for my truck, my A/C=windows down, kick vents out and speed. The more air flow through the cab the better, especially at low speeds.

If no one else jumps in with the measurements, I will measure mine when I get home from work today.:beer::beer:

My top is bare. I can measure tonight or make an opening template if i can find a big piece of paper. I have a template for the front glass. I seem to remember whitey had a paper template? Maybe?
And i would be interested as i currently have nothing but a gasket.

Sizing

I am kind of excited that this gent took about 20 minutes on the phone and asked lots of questions, loner than most. He is a big fan of the FJ40s but never herd of this web site but is now considering on going on the hunt for a 45.
He did say that if he can't get one built within his company he has other contacts in the industry that may able help.
Soot, big thanks for the info, that will be just fine. I will make a copy of your photos and send them to him.
tornadoalleycruiser, I think what we have from soot will work well, so big thanks, now lets see were this goes.

10-4. I had to re-read on an actual computer(not my phone).. they're all the same correct? size/Year wise I mean? THey appear so. Good luck with this project. Sure would be helpful to not remove the top everytime one wanted a breeze.

Yes from what I have found out the rear windows are all the same in size except for the early 45 with the split windows. I do hope the return answer is yes it can be done, all I can do is wait and see. He did say that he may have a corner radius piece made if the tools are still available and he would send me that test piece. Since I have a window in I may need someone who has a window out to give it a try to see how it fits.

My top is gutted and sitting in the unfinished room in the basement. Address is VERY easily found in the front of the toyota trails.. So if you need a test fit for whatever reason i'm more than happy to help. And I can mail back whatever pieces, have a postage meter at the house as well.

Thank you tornadoalleycruiser, may take you up on that. Let's see what response we get from the vendor.

Put me down for one...

Well I left a message yesterday and still no response, :bang: I think I am getting the old COLD SHOLDER deal here. I thinking China now as they are more than willing to make some. Just hate Red tape. :crybaby:

Okay we still have a glimmer of hope. Received an email from Jeff one of the engineers from the company with this said:
They are sending me a frame/clamp-ring soon. When I get it, I will cut it in half and send you a piece to review. I hope to have it late next week.
So I will not give up hope right now. I believe the part that he is referring to is the corner piece that will be the same in all four corners if it works out. Who is close by Idaho and has there rigs rear window out for a trail fit if all goes to plan. My rear window is installed at this time. I will pay the shipping to you and back if your willing to test check it with his instructions. As I was told the corners radius is his only concerns, the rest of the slider is a no brainier. If they seat well and the frame & clap-ring fits, we may be in business.
Then I will see what the cost might be. Just for references what would someone be willing to pay for a basic clear rear slider for your FJ45???
Remember there are none on the market, they have to be made, and I am sure there will be some fix amount to be made (5-10 ? ) to make it worth there efforts. They are not very large, about the size of a small PU truck. They may even offer tinted glass, if so how dark..
Post your thoughts.
PM me please.
Thanks

Update:
Recived this email today-

I sent a section of frame and clamp-ring (for a .250" installation wall) today. When you get it call me to discuss.
I didn't have proper tools so the cut is very rough. It could use some filing to take the burs off for safety (don't cut yourself!).
