I have a 2003 100 series and the nav screen randomly broke today. The audio is now stuck completely in "audio off", and the map buttons do not even respond. I would like to just replace the screen with a non-nav 100 series climate control board and an upgraded aftermarket stereo system. Has anyone done that and/or know if it is possible?

In theory it is possible.
There are a number of threads on the subject.
@RobRed has probably done the most research on the subject.
A few have successfully done it on 2001/2002 models.
I've seen lots of posts that talk about doing it, I have yet to see a post ,where anybody has actually converted a 03+ nav to a non-nav.

There's the Canavie replacement, but since the Canavie scavenges parts from the OEM system, it may not work for you.

I'd do some trouble-shooting first. Maybe just a loose connector or a sticky button? It may be the infamous internal circuit board solder failure, or may not be. Here's another link in the FAQs. To be blunt, it's not feasible to replace the integrated nav on the '03 with an aftermarket unit. R&R what you have.
