Got these seats with my '73 FJ40, but they are clearly not the right jump seats. Can anybody tell me what version FJ they belong to? Thanks

Those may be the Colombian or South American longer jump seats for the FJ40. The base model spec South American jump seats are longer than the the American spec short seats that come with the standard roll bar.

Those maybe the original seats and not the original rollbar. Is your fj40 built in 73 or registered as a 73 and possible manufactured in 1972 before they had a factory roll bar and those long jump seats?

vin checks out to april 1973

def th eright seats for a 73...late 73 was the year they changed.

Look just like my 73 jump seats. The 72 and 73 bottom frame was angled in a little on the front which makes it easier to fold the seat up. With the bench seats like in the 72 and earier it was a tight fit. Guessing with the bucket seats in a 73 without the angle edge the bucket seat would have to fold forward to fold up the jump seat.

seat reference

from cruiserparts.net, one of the best jumpseat references I've seen:

Jump Seat FAQ:

There are 6 total different jump seats.
#1 - 1963 - 1969, long style with 2 bolt holes per a leg
#2 - 1970 - 1973, long style with 1 bolt hole per a leg.
#3 - 1973 - 1975, Short style for roll bar, bad tendency to brake at joints.
#4 - 1976 - 1977, Short style, for roll bar, slightly better bumper design. Still breaks easily
#5 - 1978, short style, excellent for all earlier years, black and has a fold down support leg.
#6 - 1979-1981, short style, It is a bit updated from the 78 style. Steel bottom plate is at edge instead of inset.
#7 - 1982-1985 short style, updated and a smaller fold down leg.

That is not quite a complete list. Don't believe 63 or 64 bolted to the back of the tub. The switch to a single was in the middle of 69. They list 73 twice. The 72 and 73 are different with the angled bottom. I have a 68/70/73 jumps along with the vehicles they are out of. Three different jump seats. 78 also had two styles of jump seats. Started the year with the fold down leg as well as the bumpers that rested on the edge of the wheel well. I have both 78 styles.

Good eye. They also have the last change as 1982, when it should be 1981. The small leg started in 1981 along with the footman loops.

Thanks everybody. Excellent info! Since I have a full-cage roll bar, the back braces could come out to accommodate the fine jump seats.

This should be in FAQ :D
