Try putting them on wet next time , that way you can get them where you want and then squeegee the water out with a spreader.
We got about 5" yesterday and been raining all day so far today.

Applying with water is probably an excellent idea.

My family lived in Butterfield years ago. I had to look up where you were at.

Nice job using the existing lights. I just placed an order for new decals after seeing this because I think I can use this as a check engine light.

If you have a Dakota Digital Cluster, there is an input for a check engine light. I've thought about rigging mine, but not a real high priority with the R2.8, the murphy gauge has one built in.

Got over it and drilled some holes on the shift plaque. Looks like the bees knees to me.

Sorta 40 related. I got my camping trailer back from the metal fabricator.

Lid, tailgate, and fenders are aluminum.
Timbren Axles. I think I under spec's axles. It weighs about 700# as it sits in the pictures. I'll be adding 160lbs of roof top tent. My drawer setup is going to be probably a little over 100lbs. So I'll be around 1000 pounds before putting anything in it. I'm pretty sure the axles are rated at 1200#
I originally purchased them to refit an M416. They'd probably be fine in that application.
My other issue is the Timbren axles are a little overly complicated and stupid expensive. I really like that there is no bar down low to snag on anything. I might be replacing them with a high mount torsion setup.

I learned something new. You can't have amber facing aft on the trailer. I bought only amber lights originally for the little clearance lights. Now I've got some red lights on order and they should be here next week.

The taillights also have a reverse light in them. I think I'm going to run those off of the same circuit as the reverse lights in the rear bumper.
The trailer will have a 7 pin RV receptacle mounted. That way I can run a cable with two male ends in between the vehicle and the trailer. I've done a couple of trailers that way. It makes replacing something if damaged super easy to do and source.

Trailer has a 6x5.5 bolt pattern. And same tire size as the 40. I think it's coincidence. 😆

I'm going to make a simple drawer system from plywood, and skeletonizing everything I can.
The red box in the picture represents my Honda suitcase generator.
I'm planning on keeping a cooler at the back closest to the end gate.
When the drawer is open, there's a section that sits on top to create a work surface. I'll have another spot on the back of the drawer where I can mount an extension to create a bigger spot to work/cook from.

It hasn't been painted yet for two reasons. They're just isn't enough time before SAS, and getting some use on it would be good. If I want to change something, before paint is way easier.

I have a fantasy of taking a month long trip to Alaska in 2026 in the 40. Dragging a trailer while not a requirement will probably make that a much more civilized experience.

Let me know if you want a convoy. That sounds awesome. (I wished my 40 was ready in time for this trip I’m on in Newfoundland)
The plan is to convoy with two other rigs currently. The bitch is taking a month off to do the trip and getting through Canada.

Wow. Beautiful trailer build..

I’ve been dreaming of Alaska in a 40 As well. The time required is the killer for me. Not sure how I could manage 6-8 weeks off. Because that’s what I feel like would be required for a trip up there. Especially in a 40

I agree. I think a month will be barely adequate.

I keep trying to win the lottery so I can F around full time, it just doesn't pan out like I want it to.

It'll probably take a week just to get there. I need to find somebody with an FFL I can ship firearms to as well since Canada has absolutely insane firearm laws.

Karl,

Happy to post up on my thread, vs hijack.

What I was thinking for Alaska (bucket list for me). Ship YELLR to Seattle and fly there. Then drive up the Alaskan peninsula and back. This would be a fall drive, chasing Aspen Turing, bears, and snowflakes (real snowflakes). That was my thought to cut the time needed and see parts of Alaska.

I don't care about a hijack. 10% of the pictures are of my dog anyways.
The only thing off limits is my feelings. Cause I don't have those outside of anger. 🤣

I thought about doing the ferry. Super giant pain the ass with a dog though.

I figured cross into Canadaland in North Dakota and b-line it for Yukon Territories.

Part of the adventure is the s*** drive. I figure a week up and a week back. It's 3200 miles to Valdez. Another 900 to Prudoe Bay from there.

I don't have a bucket list of things to do in Alaska yet other than getting above the Artic Circle.
Not end up bear poo should be on that list.
As should "not get trampled by moose"
I'd like to see the bush plane competition. I think that's in Valdez? Which is south and can be driven to. Likely miserable camping. I think it rains there A LOT.

Pro/can with ferries. The one I was just on had a lot of pets on it, postage stamp of astroturf for pets to relieve themselves on.

Also, I got back today. I have a work trip next Sat- through the following Friday. If you want to connect to hand some stuff off, no problem outside of those days. I’m in the 70% camp now of towing YELLR and would be able to put stuff on my trailer since you will be tight. I might make a run to see my son in the TC too before as well.

I read up on the ferry from Seattle. Looks like dogs are locked in vehicles in the hold almost the whole time. I like my dog too much to do that too her.

My buddy is dragging the camping trailer to Buena Vista. That was the only thing I was struggling to get out there. Since the 40 is staying after sas, plenty of room on the flatbed on the way back for the trailer with the Hilux.

I'm still plenty game for convoying out to Ouray.

And game for beers if you're swinging through.

Winning.

Lights work. (After wiring the plug on the trailer backwards. Cause why wouldn't I?)

That lid is fricking heavy. I wasn't sure if I wanted to add struts. Now I'm pretty sure I want struts.

20240707_172258.jpg

Originally I was going to mount the tent so the opening was forward. Then you could use the tongue to get in.
My fear is the latches failing on the tent and becoming a sail. The tailgate on the trailer can be used as a step too. I'm not sure how hard the tailgate will be to latch from the tent door.
