Sorta 40 related. I got my camping trailer back from the metal fabricator.
Lid, tailgate, and fenders are aluminum.
Timbren Axles. I think I under spec's axles. It weighs about 700# as it sits in the pictures. I'll be adding 160lbs of roof top tent. My drawer setup is going to be probably a little over 100lbs. So I'll be around 1000 pounds before putting anything in it. I'm pretty sure the axles are rated at 1200#
I originally purchased them to refit an M416. They'd probably be fine in that application.
My other issue is the Timbren axles are a little overly complicated and stupid expensive. I really like that there is no bar down low to snag on anything. I might be replacing them with a high mount torsion setup.
I learned something new. You can't have amber facing aft on the trailer. I bought only amber lights originally for the little clearance lights. Now I've got some red lights on order and they should be here next week.
The taillights also have a reverse light in them. I think I'm going to run those off of the same circuit as the reverse lights in the rear bumper.
The trailer will have a 7 pin RV receptacle mounted. That way I can run a cable with two male ends in between the vehicle and the trailer. I've done a couple of trailers that way. It makes replacing something if damaged super easy to do and source.
Trailer has a 6x5.5 bolt pattern. And same tire size as the 40. I think it's coincidence.
I'm going to make a simple drawer system from plywood, and skeletonizing everything I can.
The red box in the picture represents my Honda suitcase generator.
I'm planning on keeping a cooler at the back closest to the end gate.
When the drawer is open, there's a section that sits on top to create a work surface. I'll have another spot on the back of the drawer where I can mount an extension to create a bigger spot to work/cook from.
It hasn't been painted yet for two reasons. They're just isn't enough time before SAS, and getting some use on it would be good. If I want to change something, before paint is way easier.
I have a fantasy of taking a month long trip to Alaska in 2026 in the 40. Dragging a trailer while not a requirement will probably make that a much more civilized experience.
