was able to get a set of 33x12.5x15 tires. rims are unknown aluminium.
Owww my , the truck now just follows ruts on the highway and has exposed a serious floating steering .Do you guys think it can be re set by myself or is it a pro job. btw , the body has a G near the front door, does it carry a meaning?

G means it’s a diesel 60, no side vents in that area, just like mine! I just haven’t put my G emblems back on after my paint job.

did some looking underneath the truck, seems i might have flatter front springs than rear + still trying to evaluate the steering problem. comments most welcome.

Pretty tidy looking HJ you have got!

12.5" tires will wander on the road, that's for sure but there is a few ways to reduce it.

One is to adjust steering box. Steering Box Adjustment Screw
Second, bigger and better(stronger) steering damper. You probably still have the original damper.
Third, check your tie rod ends for play, replace if needed and get an alignment done.

Your springs however looks to be in really good shape for its age. Nothing to worry about them.
Usually they are completely flat or starting to curve down.

I was told it was originally from aland islands where no salt is used on road. Google Maps
Im studying your steering comments,cheers

just for curiosity , i found a service booklet. The last owner i guess was active . I bought it from a car trader guy from west finland.

Uh.. Swedish.

I remember seeing this rig for sale on Nettiauto, looked pretty good in the pics.
Would be a pretty easy candidate for restorating, compared to most Finnish Cruisers.
Thats it !. As soon as i got it i realised i was out of my element. Its a company vehicle that will be used to tow 3500kg trailer.

Did some testing on the steering.
The pitman arm/tie rod steering joint(pic) moves side to side and lifts a little. Is it a replace item. Whats the best item to replace with in Finland?

Also , when the pitman arm doesnt move , i have about 40mm movement on the stock steering wheel.
All the other joints didnt seem to wobble when the steering was applied hard enough to turn the tires on the bitumem.

Another thing i noticed when fitting the fatter tires was that the left hand side front tire/rim sits a little further out of the body than the right hand side. Is that even possible?

Yes its possible if the rims have a different offset or back spacing. Or if the whole axle has moved because the locator pins are missing from the springs.

Did you sort out the engine problems? Is it making any smoke or hard to start when cold?

Most of your problems seem fairly simple. Parts for the steering are easy to buy off the internet if the dealer doesn't have them.
The steering wheel should have no more than 25mm play. Once you have fixed any problems in the steering joints, you can do the adjustment in the steering box. But don't do the adjustment before you have fixed the other problems.

motor update- no smoke at all.
The week i bought it it was minus 10's overnight, the guy i got it from just started it without waiting and said " i like this one, it even starts in minus 20" cause he tested it. So guess what i found the other day , "the choke" , feeling super noobed on that one.
So after putting a treatment of diesel cleaner in the tank and blowing out the newish aircleaner, using the choke to keep a nice idle when cold i have found it nicer.
I put another 400km on it and am thinking its a little up/down/up in revs(just noticable in sound) when cruising on the highway2000-2500rpm.

Its got good throttle response from 1/4 to 1/2 throttle, but 3/4 to full doesnt seem to produce much but ive only topped it out at 3200rpm .

These are adjustable, remove the pin and tighten with a large flat screwdriwer. Might be stuck.

This is part of the famous cruiser lean. Your spring bushings might be worn out, so axles get to move slightly sideways. Also, check u-bolts, so they are not loose.

That "choke" knob is not technically a choke- it's just a hand throttle control to raise the idle.
The truck should cold start fine without using it, but it is nice for warming the truck up faster when idling.
It's also an awesome dirtbag cruise control. But that's a controversial topic.

As for engine dryness - I don't like the rust and aluminum salting that happens on a dry engine, so I keep mine a bit damp with oily sprays.
I try not to put to much on though, cause it can be hard to tell if something important is leaking...

Need to change your title to HJ60, since it’s not an FJ60.
lol
Thanks for that
should the forum heading have hj in it?
