I love it, Nostradamus. I don't have it loaded up with bumpers or drawers, but with 5 passengers, I'm able to keep up on the highway and can do 70, even 75 mph.

It's also great for crawling, up- or downhill, with a really low 1st gear. I have to change to 2nd midway through an intersection, but I don't mind that.

I have 62 body and frame, so I have 4.11 gears, which helps with the low end. I also have 31" tires. My next set, I think I'll do 33s, but I doubt I'll ever go higher than that.

Best,

Ara

do you guys have auto lights on when starting ?. ive had to put a note on the dash to remind me to switch lights on but would prefer a work around.Does anyone have a easy to do wiring setup ?

cors ; No, I mostly forget to turn off and the buzzer annoys me, but found that the lights always on is good for the batteries equalizing/charging.
I think it should be possible to use an relay to switch them on when ignition is on, pretty simple even.
I bought a 24volt motion sensor that was funny to test but no purpose, dont know if that could help you remember the lights.

I would buy something like this I think, don't see 24v but that could be helped with a relay.
If you have the color of the wire in the switch you are halfway.

Got to cruise around, the steering sucked still.
Only fix was to get the wife to jiggle the steering while i hit the pitman arm lower so the gears would tighten up, then i got another turn on the holding screw(34). I got the steering better but still not perfect.

12.5" wide tires makes the steering wander if everything else is ok. If you can, swap to something narrower.

Also, these things did not come with headlight buzzer from factory. You will get used to switch the lights on as time goes. :)

In the future i would like to run maybe 31's , but i think the geolander 33's tire have a squarer edge and so it tracks a bit.
Im intersted to try a tire with a more rounded edge on the sides .
I noticed that the 31's dont come in 12.5 in the online stores. they stock 31/10.5/R15

Im really interested in fitting a higher tire but i would be ok with 31's.

17" or 20" rims, everything starts to get silly money, the 15" rims still have lower price tires.

Have you seen any 20" rims cruises in finland .

I use rust prevention spray to keep the engine from drying out. Usually Krown, but I don't think it exists in EU...
I'm sure you have something like it...
I found some oil in a spray can for 3euro , gave it a go and it worked a little , must remember to to keep doing it.

had to give the OME springs idea away, found some secondhand springs.
Im thinking to add a leaf to front and rear of this set before swapping them over . Any pointers is most welcome .

had some time for closer inspection but first i had to take them apart. A mash hammer and 2 pry bars.

I started another question thread because i thought i had twisted springs
leaf spring twist (pic)

Didnt have much tech in the garage but i figured that my eyes could have been deceiving me about the perceived twist.
So i set up the springs on the vice and used a level to make sure the center was level.
Then used another level to get a visual on the leafs near the bushing eyes. The yellow level didnt read much variation from level.

bit of wire wheel and disc work, some corrosion inhibitor paint.
Can anyone speculate on adding a leaf from the old man emu range?
I emailed a local shop about it but they never replied.
my spring lenghts are
not including the overload spring and the 2 full length springs
overload leaf, 67cm , 79cm, 95cm, 2 x full size springs.Anyone?

the paint is 2 colors mixed together. i had to use a very hard disc on the grinder to make fast work of it. the primer covers those parts.
found a welded leaf.

Welded leaf? Ditch that.

Are you going to use OME add a leafs at all? Adding leafs from your old packs is an option too.

Nice work btw.

Yes, the cross4 guys replied and it looks like I will get 4 ome add a springs. And I need longer u bolts, longer spring center bolt new bushings kit all round, new shackles to rear. Front shackles have been updated since 1982 and look OK to me. I don't think I will buy secondhand again if I include the price, pick up, hrs cleaning and new kit bits The front springs were easy but the pitted areas in the backs is a pita. Rostex super to the rescue.

Sounds good. New springs would be less hassle, but what fun would that be?

Rostex Super is great product, i have had good results using it. Or at least as good as a "single component" paint can be.

Keep it up!
