Congrat's on the kid. Make sure you show them how to change the oil on the pig early. Mine is 11 and knows how to do all the maintenance. He is learning about rebuilding the engine now. :beer:

Thanks! And no worries about the cruiser education. Boy or girl, the nursery is decorated in cruisers and puppies. Kid's going to be out in the garage as much as anywhere else!

Oh, and speaking of said piggy, I cleaned out the doors last night and one of them is just plain ole' rusted through the bottom. Any one have any suggestions for repairing the underneath (bottom) of doors?

which door is it I may have a spare?

It's the passenger rear. I did go ahead and treat it with POR and then POR putty it. It actually turned out pretty good. If you do have one, let me know...especially if it's in really good shape. Thanks Roy!

Can't wait to see more of this build. Nice work and follow through for the work here.

Well, I haven't posted up pics in a while...so here are some of the progress over the last few months. It's not been a lot...but it's enough right now!

Here are some pics of the floorboards where we cut out the roT;

Look at this perfect roof!!!!

.

Even my boyfriend got into it this weekend. Grinding the tailgate. We found A LOT of bondo that will need to be replaced with metal.

And finally...with many mixed feelings, we loaded her up for the trip to the fab/body shop for some welding and some painting. I really wish I could have done more, but at least it's getting done.

I should have some progress to report in the next few weeks as the shop gets things done.

awsome work Heather......an inspiration to my redheads tro help dad in wrenching...they are following your thread as closely as I am:D..the curley haired 11 year old already has asked for a piggy for her first vehicle:frown:

Lou

you are being too hard on yourself! outsourcing the body work I think is a smart idea, it can be tedious work. I plan to do the same with my 55 build.

question, how did you like working with the por putty? I thought about getting some of that stuff. seems like it would work nice for the smaller holes. I have some por putty but have heard it is a little too soft for holes larger than pinholes?

Thanks Lou, you are sweet. Give that girl a piggy. It'll keep her out of trouble!

Thanks Noah. The thing is that I kind of like the tedious work. I am a bit of a perfectionist and I just know that I'll find stuff that won't be done the way I was going to do it. I am sure you know what I mean!

As for the putty...that stuff ROCKS. I have seen mixed reviews before, but I gotta tell you, I like it. It's MUCH better at filling holes than the POR patch. It's the consistency of modeling clay and sticks like gum to whatever you push it onto or into. That door was rotten at the bottom to the point that it was wobbly because there was no structure. I put the putty on the outside and the inside and let it dry overnight. Once it was dry, it was on there. The only thing I'll tell you is that it's a pain in the ass to sand. Since it is so hard, it doesn't sand quickly like filler. I ended up using a flapwheel on the grinder since I overdid the thickness a bit.

Heather, what door do you need?, I might have a spare, the girls are looking for excuses for me to take them to see you;

Lou

oops:o, passengers rear, have one..............will see how much rust it has;

Lou

are all the rears the same?, know the fronts are very different depending on th eyear,

Lou

Is there any way you can get to the body shop and get pics of their continuation of your work? I feel like I'm in the middle of a great book and someone hid it! Congrats, BTW.

Lou, thanks very much...and I don't know if all the rears are the same, but I don't think so. Anyway, I got it all pieced together just fine. I am all set. Thanks though! Give those kids a hello from me.

Funny, I feel the same way. And Thanks!

I called yesterday and they are not really into it yet. They work on one truck at a time. When they get done with the one they have in there, then mine is next. Expecting this or next week. I am gonig to try to get up there with a camera. And I'll ask them to take pics for me too. Thanks for following along!

One other thing. I have been thinking that stock look was the way to go all along, but then I saw the seats scorcher did for the piggy he restored. I am thinking red and white seats with red piping. Hmmmmm......

Heather the kids want to see the new baby<LOL. here is a picture they insist I send.......

Lou

checked on the rear doors and have a cpl of nice ones.....just don't know if there is a difference in the fit...........front doors are different between early and later models...........but rear ones???.....BTW, $or has rebuilt front lower hinges; price is reasonable;

Lou

Well folks, I have an update. I drove up to the shop today to check out the piggy progress. I am really glad that they have the truck because they are doing a great job. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done!!!!

Here are the fenderpatches. The first one is done, and the second is only tack welded.

The next three are the donor floorboard I aquired all cut down, cleaned up, and fitted for welding. This was NOT an easy job and I have to say that they did an excellent job. If all their work ends up looking this good, I'll whole heartedly recommend these folks for work on future piggy projects!

I asked them to take some photos as they go because it takes me a good hour or more to get there from here. More updates as I get them!

Looks like good work!

Dang - those sliders are nasty... :grinpimp:

Nah, they aren't too bad. They just look bad since they are rusty from being outside. You didn't do too bad at all.

I see what you are doing tonight without the wifey at home, huh?
