How does the SOR kit differ from Poser's? Big thread in 40/55 tech on RDBs...

i wasnt able to find the thread you were referring to however i did find what i was looking for from camcruiser13's RDB thread.

camcrusier13 many thanks for your awesome work in documenting your projects.

I try to search out my answers before i post questions (which is scary when you consider how basic some of my questions are ) i don't want to bog down the list with a bunch of easy to answer questions.

well first i would like to celebrate in the fact that i got those pesky spider gears back in (on about the 45th try). i'm sur you all already know this but for me the trick was to get the bottom in and then turn the axle until it was free floating in the back. then feed the top spider in and work it in as the bottom one worked its way back towards me.

i decided not to put those concave washers in between the spider gear and the housing in they just didnt seem necessary and i perfer to have extra parts lying around. (i'm kidding by the way, i did put them in but the top one kept falling out and ramming itself to the front of the housing..)

I made a decent amount of headway today considering i have been plauged by weird little setbacks. (like losing the rear differential pin) waiting for seals and gaskets to arrive. having my drunken neighbor come over several times and insist that my piggy isnt a toyota.

i got both sides of my RDBs (check it out i'm learning the acronyms) done today once i got one side dialed in the other was a snap and that side of the axle wasnt nearly as dirty so cleaning and stripping dirt paint and rust wasnt so much of an issue.

i got the rear diff back together and it seems to work as designed.

tomorrow i am going to put the diff cover back on and strip the paint rust from the axle and prime it. if i get that far i'll be happy.

Next things to do.

1.there is a dent in the circle of metal surrounding the rear end drain plug that prevented me from getting a socket in there to drain it. i need to grind that away.

2. clean the diff cover studs and get the Diff cover back on and fill the rear with oil.

4.pull the shocks and stabilizer bar .

3. Grind all the gunk/rust/pain off the diff and then re paint it and make it reflect all the work i put into it.

my rims should come tomorrow. so seeing those on it will be nice. i havent decided on tires yet i think i'm going to go the used route for now so i may have a limited selection.

my cruisercrap sound deadening material arrive today in the mail. my thought was to coat the ceiling, front floor and firewall with this stuff there are some large dents in the roof i want to get fixed beforehand however..

I could be mistaken, but on my rear disc brake conversion(s) the caliper is in the rear/back. By looking at your picture it looks like yours is forward. Not sure if it matters......

yeah from what i read they could be mounted either way so i went out and looked at my other cars they were both rear forward. so i went with that.

you can just swap the calipers to make sure that the bleeder is on top. at any rate. i made sure that the bleeder was on top of both sides.

i think i'm going to be working on the engine compartment tomorrow. we'll see.

my rims came today and i couldnt wait to get some tires. on them. i had a friend that had a decent pair of offroad tires. they are nothing special and they are used but you cant beat the price. they look good though.

Thanks Ron i picked the wheels based motly on price (85 each shipped) i really needed 17's to clear the brakes (16's was really close)

Ron i read your thread last nigh. very impressive i wish i had the facilities to do something like that.

could someone please tell me where these wires go? i have been scouering all the pictures i took of my engine compartment for a clue but i am lost.

sorry i havent been updating this lately i had a family emergency that took me away from my piggy for a while but now i'm back in full swing.

the wire leads to what used to be the coil. i have an aftermarket ignition system that the PO had installed.

i'm not sure how where these run to i pulled out the coil because it wasn't being used and now the car wont start.

so getting back into the swing of things i thought i would ask again about those wires in the picture.

also what is the brake bleed order for the pig i have 3 manuals and none of them say which is which.
