I just saw this thread!

5 days a week I drive West across the Valley, along Oxnard to Sepulveda, right past TLC4x4. Last week or so, I passed the shop and your truck was parked in the lot, just in front of the showroom. I swear I did a 180 in front of that goofy coffee shop (got honked at by a Beemer) and then another so I could park on the street and oogle your rig ...

Then I had to speed home and take a cold shower... The wife wondered what I was doing in there so long ...

:D

PS: While I do follow the logic and respect the sentiments, I do feel that it would be quite inappropriate to discriminate the ICON as not being a true Toyota. With the background, the ICON philosophy and the kinda work that the TLC chaps put into designing and executing this range, I cannot help but feel that its probably a truer Land Cruiser and a Forty than many others out there. Heck they would probably keep it all Toyota if they possibly could, but for me badges do not matter as much as the heart, which I know is in the right place out here! Cheers!

this thing is more land cruiser than the P.O.S. FJ Cruiser that Toyota is trying to pass off. this is what toyota should have built. just my 2 cents.

While I share your sentiments - Better you guys saying this, than me.

I think most can agree - Jonathan Ward has lot's of love & respect for the Land Cruiser. I'm sure he too, is/was disappointed with the direction Toyota went, with the new FJC.

When you combine the above, with his knowledge & skills - The result is the ICON,... His interpretation of what a modern FJ Cruiser should/could be.

IMHO, I think his efforts pay tremendous homage to original Land Cruisers.

Cheers!

Well the FJ Cruiser isn't a POS, it's just not a Land Cruiser. Period. I agree that it would have been better from the perspective of hardcore cruiser owners. But this has been hashed repeatedly. TLC4x4 showed the early Icon to Toyota as an idea for the FJ Cruiser and it was a whole lot less refined than now. Spring under leaf springs. Etc. Toyota said "nope". And then a bunch of newbie stylists in Cali got ahold of the design and we have what we have. Love it or hate it.

I really do like that '44 series Icon. Super way friggin cool.

i dream of the ICON 44 at night. i even considered trading one of my kids:hhmm:

For the amount of $$ you spend on one of these, I'd say you purchased the right to tell people to F-off if they don't think it's an LC..

If I could afford one I'd have one in a heartbeat!
