need to install that manual glow system and check your glow plugs?
Im mounted with a Wilson switch . Might have burnt glow plugs as it's not a timer . But I wonder if the intake heater could be wired to work manually or with a timer.

I will see how it starts tomorrow with the block heater. Should be fine for a while

Something annoying I had to fix this week end 😅

Transmission Oil leaking IN the truck from the Speedo cable....

Culprit right there

That little seal is in the Speedo gear housing witch I had to get creative to remove. That thing was stuck ....

Used my slide hammer and made a special head to fit on the gear housing

It's just an old shaft nut from the transmission a 2in tube and a nut that fit on the hammer shaft. Worked like a charm ! And now I can drive in my Saturday shoes 🤣

No budget for air con this year (next year either lol)

So at least tinted windows should help :) Too broke to have them installed so it turned into another DIY project. Iit did turned out fine I think !

Also ordered the 5th gear synchro kit (hub ,cog and brass synchro) so will be on the Jack stands again soon ....

Received the tires ... Still missing 2 wheels from the order. Hopefully the will be here soon , at least before the snow .

Did a quite long run this week end , nothing really interesting but necessary .... Couldnt stop thinking about that annoying exhaust drone I tried to fix by redesigning the complete exhaust like 3 times and it didn't fix that noise...

I was coasting down a hill the 5th gear went out like im used to now and my foot stayed on the accelerator keeping the engine at 2300rpm ... the drone went away 🤨. The sound came from the rear of the truck so I started looking more into it to find its my Pinion bearing that is growling under load AND deceleration when in gear.

So while changing the 5th gear synchro , might as well re-bearing the whole rear diff .... hoping that will solve it. My girlfriend / life partner / wife to be cant stand the noise in the truck on long travel , cant say I enjoy it either.

crossfinger :P

Another big wrenching week end to come

Did the rear differential bearings , new crush sleeve and axle seals too .

Went pretty well . Took 4 and a half hours and I feel a difference but the noise I was hoping to have fixed is still there .... I suspect my driveshaft .... But anyway I was so disappointed I decided to work more on the truck 😂

Happy with it so far , still have to add a few thing to it , like a folding first step witch can be turned in a support for Jerry cans or propane tank ...

But fell short on the MiG gaz ... So that's it for now . Maybe I will finish it this week and paint the final product

Still waiting for my wheels too 🥲 ...

Re-adjusted the backlash . Was a bit too tight;) I couldn't find the info if I could do it only with the rear cover off... So now I know and the short answer is yes :)

And now ... I want a Turbo :( it runs fine.... But just a little more kick would be welcome. Been shopping a little and I wish the W&S kits were available in Canada ... Don't seem to be anything else decent ,complete with a reasonable pricetag ....

Still thinking about it ... But it's getting very tempting. 🫠😬

Played a few time with the fuel pump timing in the last months and had a little surprise in the driveway ..... The pump was leaking from the plungers quite a lot. they might have loosen when I untighten the fuel lines ... made a tool to put them back fully seated with a 22mm socket and an old wrench (no pictures :( ) worked fine !

Still have the exhaust manifold gaskets to do soon or later if I find the motivation ... Weather is getting colder and there's 5in of snow since this weekend.
That truck is no Honda civic so I need to work with the garage doors opened .

Received front wheel bearings and seals with the 54mm axle nut socket so that too has to be done. Not boring to own a 60 😅

Only thing that's boring is the 0-60 🫠

Tried to fix my Speedo reading
17635961725855615385192414914230.webp

6x16 was installed ... I guess I should be closer to real speed with the 6x15 :)

According to a calculator I found online I should be spot on. Let's confirm with the GPS in a moment :)

In the end I'm 4km/h over ( at 100gps I'm 104 on the Speedometer)

Screenshot_20251119-195237.webp

But while at it I verified what size was good for the gear I had and I'm gonna keep it if I ever want to go back to 31s

It was almost perfect with my other tire setup too !

Anyway both fit the 6t drive gear 😅 I will now be able to get my fuel efficiency more accurately.

Cool! what part is this? Ill likely do the same once i get bigger tyres.

Had a quite long ride this week end , mostly highway ..... and damn ... I was hoping the bearing noise was gone from the diff once I changed them ... Its good when cold but once heated up its very noisy :( . not sure what cause this but next step would be a new ring and pinion set ... 420k on the clock still running the oem gear. Cant be coming from the front .... I clearly hear the noise from the rear passenger side only on load.

edit: probably still too tight on the backlash ... When I changed my bearings I didnt measure the backlash PRIOR dismantling... So I set it to the FSM specs and that screws it up by not considering the existing wear on the gear. At this point its hit or miss ... will remove the rear cover again to loosen it up a little and if it doesn't solve it I will order a gearset 🫠

I love that truck ... and I know an old Diesel is a noisy ride ... but that ain't normal and its driving me crazy. Im about to strip the rear axle down and rebuild it completely or to just replace it with another one. 😥

Aired out to 20psi but this spot got me stuck and we went down to 12psi . Tires are awesome in the snow but after the ground iced from slipping they just don't grip . That picture don't really show how steep it was but 4 wheels locked by the brake the truck backed up anyway 😅. Took a little while to go over that hill.

Well.... Cold is here ... As stated in the 24v section I'm trying to install a circulating heater and there is not as much room as I tought. The block drain is quite easy to access and will be my coolant input for the heater but the return is the part that bug's me .
Messenger_creation_8C00304E-EE57-49C9-B30D-DE3731095BD5.webp

This was my first try at it, installed as per the instructions that came with the heater. Since the coolant have to go down the head it's not working as good as I would expect. And the only place I can see it doing a good job is through the lower thermostat housing . Like that :
Messenger_creation_B77C1D4C-C23C-461F-AB04-F71CC39A8750.webp

But I will need to weld a bung to the housing ... I have a spare one to do that ... But before getting in that much work Im curious if anyone have another "easier" option....

That ride was the begining of winter here :) we could not go back there now there is probably like 20 more inches of snow 😅

That was really fun , all the off road without the mud to wash 😂

Benn a bit busy this weekend and finally got my winch to work :) cleaned it , painted , new stickers and rope , new relay and controler work like a charm !
