Awesome Bryan.
Glad you were able to get that missing vacuum back.
Thx. I told Rus Plan B was to put a Husker Football sticker on the engine to see that would make it start sucking again.

(that is not the team I mentioned, but too early to talk smack with football teams - so going local)

the drive home went well?

One thing I find fascinating is that the degradation of performance can be so slight, you don’t notice. Thinking about a vacuum gage on the inside to keep better eye on YELLR’s health. (Or take the 2 minute to check more frequently).

On to town to help out on a 57 Ford today

Vacuum gauge inside is something I have thought about. Most helpful at idle. Otherwise needle moves like crazy with engine revs. Like you though, just check periodically. Easy enough.

vacuum/boost gauge. get it done now for the future when there is a big hair dryer on that 2F. ;)

Vacuum gauge so nice I mounted them twice.
One to the intake manifold, one to the ported Vacuum line to the dizzy...

Time for some tech though spent more time driving and enjoying...

Did a few things.... First one is install the radiator splash guard that I had powder coated. New bolt and Anti-Seize applied...

Ran the A/C yesterday and today...

And decided to install some parts to reduce some of the louder rattles. The main culprit is the upper and lower base latches for the driver side ambulance doors. New OEM bases are not available, so I got some from a person selling some on MUD and decided this weekend was time to try them out.

Here is the rod, base, and the screw with clip that go by the handle.

Here is picture of the lower base with rod out along with the new one I got off MUD classified.

I installed the base only and closed the door to see what is what. Problem, door won't open at all. The tongue from the new latch won't lift high enough to clear the striker. Well crud.

Look at the upper striker and try to operate it and pay attention more closely. I cannot pull it with enough force to get the tongue to retract and clear the base. The spring it too strong. How to get to the spring...

Take the new upper along for pastries Sunday am - I was thinking the hard way - cut the welds, get the bit swapped, put a weld back was my thought. Rus showed me elegance.

And I went to the hardware store in Lincoln after work... made a video of the problem, the fix, and a fix to the fix....

Here is the part I got at the hardware store...

I reached out to the person selling these to suggest a change. I would buy them again. I am also wondering about making a bushing with a 3D printer to see if that can be an insert to the old OEM base. I don't have a printer, but looking how to 3D render/model it - sure some people have one.

For those that don't want to watch the video - here is the new one disassembled..

Final post for the evening...

1) I will say it is so much quieter driving Yellr with only the base replaced on the ambulance door. I didn't do the upper yet, but it is ready when I am.

2) Three tanks of fuel after doing the plugs/valves/lean-drop - Yellr is averaging 14.9 MPG now

3) And, yesterday celebrated my dad's 80th for dinner (and son turned 27 too - they share same day) - Ended up being in Omaha for that vs Ashland like I though... sorry stream of conscious, leaving restaurant, driving... at a light a woman in a truck is shouting at me. I am pretty sure she is saying 'Nice Jeep' so I kinda ignore but my worst rattle is gone so that won't work. I finally look and notice "Oh, a Tundra."

She say Love the Cruiser! Then jumps out of the truck at the red light and runs over and hands me a bunch of stickers and say I need to join their club. I'm sure my dad who is directly beside is think what kind of sick madness is this... I smile and put-put home with the sun setting.

Saguaro cactus and Omaha... seems legit.

So back last late summer, YELLR and I picked and crush grapes for a friend winery I posted about.

This weekend is the Nebraska Winery event. They set the tent about 1 mile from the sun, but other than that setup is done, live band cranking and about to go open gates

Tech stuff later - the ambulance latches….
