Ohh yeah that's better than the $90 I paid for mine. I may have my friend bring some up in a few weeks when he visits. Are they available at any parts store there?

They should be very common here in CR as I know a few friends running them here too. If he needs a source let me know

One more thought. Send me a photo of your glow relay as well. It could be that mine was also sourced from possibly a 24v system to the best of my knowledge.

Glow Plug Relay B Engine Non-US [28610-46020-U] : CruiserParts.net, Toyota Landcruiser Parts

Mine appears to be different than other OEM relays for bj40

First one is mine and the next one is OEM.

Ok, mine is not labeled to I assume it's the 28610-47010 and not the 47020.

You have pretty much the same setup as mine so maybe it's worth trying the glow plugs mentioned earlier.
I'm hoping so.
On another note are you running a brake booster? I'm running into a problem installing mine with the 3 bolt to 4 bolt adapter in place. I'm hitting the throttle linkage. I'm assuming it's not a stock cable either since it's about 3' to long.

I knew it wouldn't be easy. Never is. I removed throttle linkage to get booster on but now no way throttle linkage goes back on. It's already pushing down on it installed. I will try cutting the adapter down as much as possible leaving just enough room so the booster studs don't hit the fire wall. May even have to trim the studs.

Old junk out! Took me about an hour by myself.

I have a booster but mine did not need an adaptor. My cable too is very close and switched it out for a shorter cable. It's from a 3b setup. Will take a photo when it stops raining.
The problem with yours I think will be getting the Venturi to be closed at idle.

The more I look at yours, I have the same linkage which to me is correct for this market. I do recommend getting rid of the plastic connectors for metal ones. Those plastic ones will break, strip and fail at the least convenient time.

Nice. What are those metal things called so I can look them up? It's wierd how some things are spot on for the year just like USA imports. Other things never changed from the early 70s like tire carrier, doors, brakes...
And also thanks. It's good to have Costa Rican insight on this stuff. I'd be lost without good people on MUD living down there.

No problem.

They are universal throttle linkage. I bought mine from Jegs when I was in the states last year.
Here is the link and I believe I ordered the 1/4 linkage.

JEGS Universal Throttle Linkage Kits | JEGS High Performance

You have two options:

1. Cut off the existing metal linkage and drill a hole for the new linkage as I did using the stainless ones.
2. You can find the females stainless adapters that fit the current linkage.

Then adjust and your set. If you have any questions or need more pics let me know.

Stopping for the day. I got everything I need stripped off the old axle and ready to go on the rebuild one.

I made a bit more progress on the axle swap today and hit a few snags as well.
I installed caster shims and new spring pins. Due to the added hieght now I didn't have enough thread on a few of my u bolts since I cut the excess off during the lift install. I will get four new ones made tomorrow. If any locals need u bolts Atlas Automotive, 7th and Springdale, makes them on the spot. Just bring in an old one and let them know the length you want and 10 minutes later you have them.
I also installed a new pinion flange and seal on the 3rd so it matches my driveshaft.

Since I ran out of fun things to do I decided to completely tear down the axle I removed so I would have another trip hazard in the garage. It's now all stored on a shelf. The wife didn't want it outside either since I already have a rear axle taking up space near our patio area.

Third fit nicely in a 5 gallon bucket. Taped a trash to the top for cover. I left it greasy for storage.

I made a little progress tonight on my brake booster issue. I had my firewall adapter cut down by a fab shop next door to work. I had them cut it in half and also cut the center out. I am clearing all the throttle linkage now but I can't connect my throttle cable in its bracket so I will have to do some fabrication to make it work. Now that I know my adapter length is good enough I need to weld the center back in place.

Do you have a photo of how your booster fits? Specifically how it fits with the parking brake cable and throttle cable.

Sure, give me a day as I'm at the beach now. You want a photo of the booster, throttle cable to the IP? My PB comes out the firewall and direct to drum but will try to get a good image of that next to the booster.

No hurry as I won't be working on anything for the next couple of weeks due to work. Enjoy the beach.

I got my oil analysis in from Blackstone. I'm pretty happy with it since I really don't know how many actual miles are on the engine or the service history. The first sample from a newly purchased vehicle is like getting the results of an STD test. :)

After taking almost two months off due to work from the garage I am back at it. I left everything kinda half assed so I am trying to remember where I left off on the projects. This week I made a small step to getting the power brakes finished. I took off the throttle cable bracket and did a quick cut, bend, and weld so it would make room for the booster. One of my coworkers has his tig welder as work so it made things easy.
Before photo. No way the throttle cable would work.

Modified bracket. Plenty of room now.

Final mock up in place so I can work on pedal linkage.

Next up is pulling the stock alternator and replacing it with an NPR unit with vacuum pump. I will be fabing up an all new bracket for it at work.
