Bad news. Well not REAL bad, its just the truck wont be ready until tomorrow sometime so updates will be delayed.

As for the color, I chose to stay with the basic black. I didnt want to pay their upcharge of $175.00 to add the special color additive. If I decide to change the color in the future all I have to do is spray again down the road.

Thanks for all of the positve feedback and wonderful ideas!

I love MUD! Errr, I mean IH8MUD, but love this site!

In the meantime you can look at the product, Vortex, I decided to go with http://hhcoatings.com/media/vortexsmall.wmv

Great soundtrack! I'm thinking that they should spray the bridges in Minnesota with that stuff.

Peeled most of the old bedliner in most places that I was going to stick the deadner. Cleaned the metal, took a sander to it, and then the deadner went over the top. Then the liner.

I really like the idea of lining my cabin (carpet out already) but removing the OEM deadener seems like a major PITA.

Has anybody just painted over the top?

I wouldn't bother removing the OEM deadener.

Jack,

How much stripping did you do before bedliner spray on??

I stripped all of the jute material and any rust (very little), cleaned the surface throughly, including the factory deadener, which I left attached. I then installed my deadener product and they are spraying over that.

The pic below shows my work in progress. You can see the surface of the cargo area just before deadener install and looking around the area you can see the spots I had just applied deadener to.

Looking at this pic, can anyone guess what my next project "HAS" to be? Look hard...

When you say "paint" do you mean apply deadener over it or paint over it with automotive paint?

I would agree with ebag that removing the factory deadener would not be worth the effort.

I'm guessing the next project HAS to be dealing with the factory woofer.

So you didn't do any sanding?

I would guess a woofer in that PS side panel

And the leaky quarter belt molding or side vent that caused all the rust on the bracket!

DIING, DING, DING. 96r50 is correct. I found that somehwere on the side panel or window molding there was a leak. That side vent has a broken plastic hardware piece at the bottom, so I need to replace it anyway, now would be a good time. At first I thought it was the sunroof drains but the water is coming from under the window and the vent area.

Great detective work all!

I did sand all of the parts I will be keeping. That bracket and sub are history so they will end up in a landfill somewhere. I decided to wait to remove them until after the spray as I am not spraying the inner panels. Too much risk of overspray IMO. If I was rolling it on like Beno did it would be easier.

UPDATE!!

Went by the shop and took a couple of "in progress pictures". They found a few holes that I forgot to uncover and will be filling those with straws. They also are taking their time prepping the interior (its not fully prepped in the pics below). Where I had laid deadener they are smoothing out and they also went ahead and removed the DS/PS panels which cover the seat belt housings and removed the seatbelts. They will also be laying the wiring harnesses out of the rig prior to spray.

They will be sanding the outside layer of the deadener prior to spraying.

In case you were wondering, the rust colored substance at the rear right hand side of the cargo area is actually where the PO spilled paint. Its not actual rust. The PO didnt take the time to lift everything up and clean under the carpet and it just goofed everything up underneath. What fun I had!

Just send us finished pictures already!!!!!

I was actually wondering how well they would protect the rest of the interior..what's the ETA now?

You tell me. I didnt press. I just want them to do a good job and take their time. Afterall, once its on there its hard to fix any screwups. I think it will be ready later today or tomorrow. :crybaby:

So all the silver we see inside is the deadener you put on?

FWIW, I stopped by the Line-X shop. Guy quoted me $750 for lining the inside of my rig. $350 for both outer sides and $150 for nose ($100 if it was done same time as sides). I didn't bother negotiating as I'm not any where close to thinking about setting an appointment... but if the $$ falls in my lap, I'll ask the "Is that the best you can do?" question to get the best price out of him....

UPDATE

Not bad news but not done yet. :crybaby: The tech wanted to clean it up some more, sweeping, and sponge with water to clean all of the dust left over. Hopefully, if I am back in town I can pick it up and post some preliminary pics tomorrow before I start on replacing the interior.

I went by to check out the progress and all of the plastic masking was off and it looked great! Its thick! They did an awesome job.

To test prior to spraying he took a piece of extra deadener I used and stuck it to plywood (after I had already stuck it in an inconspicuous place in the truck) about 1'x6", and left a crease in it and then sprayed it. He then had one of his techs try to pull it off the plywood, twisting and pulling and it took him 30 minutes to pry it from the plywood! The best part? None of the liner broke free. And that was after only 30 minutes!

Vortex is STRONG! This will definitely stand up to long term wear.

I'm starting to believe that we are all getting punked....Ashton come on out we know you are hiding somewhere.

Nope...you'll see!:p

Eager for the finished product!!!

Just got it back!!!

Well the pics show a lot of dust that I will be cleaning out tomorrow (I like starting with a clean slate and in case you dont know by now I can be a little obsessive about some projects) but the rig looks awesome.

Next I will be posting up pics of what she looks like with all the panels and interior back inside. Be patient as this is now my time to make sure every last pice is clean and working properly.

I hope you enjoy! :D
