Looks like "Peel and Seal" to me. I'm using this stuff this time around too. Reasonably cheap, industrial in application which is just what I want for my rig. No pansy stuff.

;)

Nice job in documenting this.

Thanks Beno!

I would check with the shop and see what the say about the hole covering, i think tape would be fine but not sure??? Looks good i want to see what it looks like finished wondering how it will sound also??

Me too. I cant wait to hear what it sounds like. After the liner is in, I will be deadening the doors as well. I just need to build up the courage to tackle taking them apart. Plus once I do, I know my OCD will kick in and I will be knee high in window regulator and motor maintenance. ARRGH! This is one habit I just cant kick!:grinpimp:

Did anyone see this??? :bounce: AWESOME idea! Thanks Tofudebeest!!!

Yea golf tees would be the best. Are you planning on leaving the drain plugs uncovered?

To answer an earlier question...no harm in asking them do mix in some brown to match the interior although when I do mine I am sticking with the black.

I will probably mention the drain plugs up front but the rest are covered with product. I will probably inquire about the brown since I just recovered my inetrior in glorious brown tones. Plus its the same color as dirt! HA!

Nothing will ever get in that a good ol shop vac can't suck out anyway right?

Really can't wait to see the finished pics and seeing how well it bonds with the aluminum..I am going to start mine probably around the end of May and will be going the professional shop route as well.

Jack:

You mentioned in your initial post about it not being your DD. What's the benefit of carpet in a DD if we put sound deadener and bedliner???

Also, like MShelby mentioned, if you're happy with your produt maybe you can PM me too bc I'm not opinionated on the subject but am very interested in doing this.

And the more general prices you can put up as you go along (even if you dont mention product names) would be a big help to us who havent begun this great project yet!!!!!

 to great ideas and OCD on quality projects!!!!

Very nice, your rig is about to get a lot quieter.

It would be easy to roll on bedliner vs. paying to have it sprayed at the point you are at with this project. I would think it will go on the aluminum well - rough it up with some sanding and you should be good to go.

I will do this one day (especially since my outside is already bedlined :flipoff2:

Nothing really...my truck is my DD and I am planning on doing the exact same thing very soon.

It will mostly be a matter of preference and the carpet will provide some kind of comfort on the feet I am sure but I really don't care that much towards the comfort more than I care about getting the carpet out and having an easier to clean floor.

Personally I dont see any benefit as a DD but there are some who use their rig as a DD who might "prefer" the creature feature of carpet. Its a personal preference like in your house...tile/hardwoods or carpet. I cant stand carpet. Its dirty, it traps everything, it shows wear quicker, promotes mold, smells at times, etc.

Thanks bro!

Looks quite nice. I am very interesting how this will turn out. Especially with the mystery product used in Texas summers. I guess with the first layer of mystery product, the bedliner layers will not heat up as fast. I know my old 4Runner was bedlined in the cabin floor and did have some squishiness on really hot days.

Keep it coming!

I am about to start this project as well. I was planning to apply the bedliner right to the metal.

Has anyone already done it over the sound deadner? It seems like that could create adhesion and durability issues.

Further up in the post Beno said he has done it and it lasted 4 years and also ebag has done it on his wifes ride.

I'm sure there are many more because I read their posts after searching for research on this project.

As long as you get the bedliner on thick enough, it should be no problem.

No, actually I haven't.

What I have done is apply Second Skin Spectrum directly to the inside skin of the rear quarters on the wife's truck. There was a thread where there was some concern about the adhesion of Spectrum to the metal without etching/primer/sanding/etc it first.

Interested to hear your reviews on the deadener and the bedliner. I've still got this damn leak in the front right onto PS floorboard, so the bedliner vs carpet is a big advantage. I think the carpet makes the rig look dingy and old. Thanks for this thread and keep the pics rolling!!!!!!

Off topic, BUT-I know personalized colors are kind of cool, but I have a very hard time reading those red and green posts-just my 2 cents.

I wish I could claim it as my own idea. It's pretty old-school, actually. Wood or plastic, doesn't matter. Can trim right around the base of each one with a box cutter, and presto, clean hole.
Yea golf tees would be the best. Are you planning on leaving the drain plugs uncovered?

I would, then trim the inside of the hole with the same box cutter, to remove any grit and a little of the bedliner, so the drain plug will be able to go back in.

All in all I would say it took me roughly 30 hours to complete the project to this point...!

Wow. It looks great and I have been considering doing exactly what you are doing for a while now, but that really provides good perspective on how much work a job like this requires. I think a lot of times you see a thread like this, read through it and look at the pictures for a few minutes, and think that it looks so simple and easy - it is hard to convey in words what 30 hours hunched over in the truck feels like. Amazing work, can't wait to see the end result.

Simply awesome, I am planning on doing this but not for a little while if I get my a$$ in gear maybe this fall.

I am curious to see the finished product I was worried about the bed liner sticking to the sound deadening stuff. You probably all ready have the truck back but I would go with a brown to match.

Awesome job
