Danny, love the pics of the family outing!
Speaking of engines I came across this that might interest you. http://www.enginehaus.com/
They are located pretty close to me so I can help with a replacement engine.

Thanks Mike!

Have you heard anything good from anyone replacing their 2F with Engine Haus?

I was already aware of Engine Haus and their price is very good ($2600 for a rebuilt 2F and $1150, for labor to swap engines) - it's certainly tempting.

But, I've had feedback from people who advise me to steer clear. Same for Oregon Engines and a couple of others.

I've had sufficient warm-fuzzies that I am again comfortable driving it 'til it dies or until I find a good used, newer 2F to swap in. I may give it up before my engine does... I've had a lot of blow-by lately too...

Also, I found the valve-cover to air cleaner hose had collapsed, that caused the oil filler cap to get hit with all the blow-by pressure. I have a new hose, PCV, etc at home now, to swap on as soon as I get back.

I'm also ordering some BOSS air bags for the rear axle - gonna lift it when it's out of the garage and the aux tank is full. Lower it to get back into the garage.

Nice pictures with the new camera.

I hope there is nothing with the camera, or it must have been that Diane gave you a cookie before the first three posted pictures above?

It seems you smudged the lens a lot, because parts of the pictures are blurry.

Rebuilding the engine seems to be soon, not nice because you guys can't drive in that time, but afterwards it will give you more piece of mind when it done.

Danny, I don't know of anyone that has purchased an engine through them but I found this:

I've been thinking about installing air bags on my 40, I have air bags on my BMW X5 and love them, specially when towing my 18 foot enclosed trailer. Please let me know your thoughts on BOSS as I'm not familiar with their products.

I don't belong to Angie's List, so I can't see the reviews.

Yes, I have Firestone in my Tundra and love the ability to raise and lower the rear end, as well as stiffen the ride, when in want to.

These BOSS BAGS are specifically for an FJ40, with 0-2" lift. But, they have other lengths... I only need the basic. BOSS is in Australia, but shipping is free to the US.

@bikersmurf answered a lot of questions for me in another thread... I can't look for it right now... Chester is a handful!!

I'm colorblind, but I've been told they are dune beige (416), like 44.

Cool! They look great on the rig. I may copy that idea when I repaint

OH BOY! He's the climber of the litter. For our Boxers it seems like there is at least one climber in every litter. It takes a lot of ingenuity to keep the climbers inside the wire fence. They are determined to get to whatever is on the other side of the fence. My opinion is that they are quite intelligent also as they seem to "plan" their escapades.

Gunner will eventually come around. Chester won't give him a chance to choose otherwise. The adults always "lose", animal and human. It won't be long and you won't know how you got along without him.

Don

they are NOT located in Gig Harbor(address is a mini werehouse), they are really in Tacoma someplace(under a different name, kinda like Jasper)

From what I gather is EH is kinda a 3rd party, so you pay him, he has the other shop in Tacoma install it. I met the guy(Erik) last year.......he has a bunch of business's and claims he is really a web designer(as well as a boat captain)

I met him because he had a 60 series for sale, short version(or at least my version after weeding though the field of BS), he screwed the guy and he could not pay the shop bill, so he ended up with the 60.....he it listed for 11k....may have been a 4k rig

Thanks for chiming in, John, and thanks for giving your opinion in our private conversation earlier!!

I hesitated to invoke your opinion here... I'm glad you did!!

Also, I was trying to get ready for this Austin trip and completely forgot the thread you included.

When I asked Erik if they use OEM gaskets, he assured me... "We use OEM or higher quality parts" and gave himself an out, by preaching the dangers of ethanol, "A leading cause of head gaskets going bad, from what have noticed, has been from ethanol in the fuel. You can research it and find non-ethanol fuel states here- pure-gas.org"

Thanks again!!

Oh, he's definitely a conniving little guy and I'm having a ball watching him plan and scheme!!

That pic was in the breeder's living room and the big dog he was trying to escape to was his mama - he's the only member of a litter of 12 that has actually made it over the wire!

You are right, Don, he is VERY smart and old man Gunner is already tired of him. Gunner will love him when he gets done with the puppy stage... In the meantime, he's trying to tolerate him as best he can.

Those look like the same BOSS BAGS that Canadian Suspension Importers have in stock at this side of the Ocean for $300 shipped (what I was quoted at least).

Sorry, I should have stated... I enquired of Reece, at CAI, and the price has gone up since you spoke to him, a year ago.

Here's Reece's response:

"Hi Danny that kit is $375 shipped to you. But I think its cheaper to get
the kit from one of our distributors in the USA

Regards Reece
Canadian Suspension Importers INC (CSI INC)"
So, I ordered from slocruisers.com for $349. ;)

Good looking Boxers , Don!!

Well, I got the Power Steering Gearbox re-sealed and reinstalled and all is good again in the world of Power Steering. :)

I also drained the brake fluid and replaced the soft brake lines, while the steering was down. I haven't yet been able to fully bleed the brakes... My cheap Harbor Freight bleeder vacuum pump can only do so much... But, I got on Dianna's schedule for early tomorrow morning

I bought new $9.95 mirrors from CruiserCorps - I didn't want OEM because they are said to crack so quickly and we get a little sun in Vegas. I really like the view in them... Much clearer than the old mirrors. And the look jus like the old mirrors.

But, they are $9.95 mirrors... :rimshot: The socket on the back was too small for the ball... I heated the ball a bit, with a heat gun and then heated the socket and formed my own socket. I'll see how long they last.

I like those! I may get a couple--better than the ccot stuff.

Well... @roma042987 told me that this thread "inspired him to plan his next adventure"... That made me smile, 'cuz Chester the Pesterer is definitely an adventure!!

He's just about the happiest puppy I've ever had!! He even smiles when he's sleeping!!

He also has a strange habit... I've never seen a dog lay on his belly and sleep with his head thrown back as far as it will go... Kinda reminds me of a cartoon coyote

image.webp

Has anyone ever seen this before?

He's a lot of fun and Gunner is starting to not be so overwhelmed by Chester's full-out behavior. They are starting to play together and this morning, Chester caught Gunner in Chester's bed and joined him there!!

So, on a more technical note... @sggoat said he may get some of those cruisercorp $9.95 mirrors... While I have no idea how long they might last, I have to say, I'm more than pleased with them!'

The mirrors are more of a wide angle (you don't need spots) there is no real blind spot. At the same time, forming my own socket (with my heat gun) has made them very stable... They don't need constant adjusting, like the old OEM did.

Of course, with the wide angles, it's difficult to see whether the car that's falling behind is a cop... But, I'm fine with that, they can't catch up to 44 anyway

That looks to be uncomfortable. I also have never seen anything like that. Jasper likes to sleep on his back with his feet up in the air and head stretched out, but definitely not like Chester.

I'm interested in seeing how those mirrors hold up. Having a wide angle mirror on the drivers side would drive me up a wall. I use the drivers mirror a lot for backing up and a distorted view would send me batty, of course that is not a very long road. I guess I could get used to it just like my Astro van which has a wide angle mirror on the passenger side.

Don

I use them to back into the garage (it's the tightest angles) with no problem. They were easy to get accustomed to and I can see better than i could with the old OEM mirrors.
