Then Aztec Princess goes on the tailgate, does Swamper make Boggers for a 14" rim? and what's the backspacing on Gold Hundred Spokes?

Andy you should post some of your art in Schit-Chat then link it here. I think Cruiser Dan will be your best bet on parts, search his name here for his contact info. The 60 contingent is STRONG in P-Town, raise up. Go Blazers!

Nice story!

That work will be cheap for you to do and it will be fun!

You got a good one. :D

Sorry, this is a tech post, right? It's a nice truck. don't give up on it yet.

You should buy a couple of cans of foamy engine bright, or otherwise degrease and clean the outside of the engine and transmission. This will allow you to gauge for yourself how much leaking you have.

You should also spend some money on factory service manuals. This post lists all the manuals I have for my 1985: IH8MUD Forums - View Single Post - FSM Prices???. You can get these manuals from Toyota materials distribution, or Specter Off-Road, Inc.-Landcruiser Parts & Accessories or maybe even ebay. The body and chassis manual is available for download from here: Downloads Index - Page: 1. The manuals I use the most are the body and chassis and the emissions manual.

$123 to replace ALL the coolant hoses is a steal. If that's what he means you might think about taking him up on it. A full set of hoses from Toyota will cost about $150. This thread has diagrams that show all the hoses you will need (see posts 3 & 4): https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/132073-replacing-upper-lower-rad-hoses.html

Depending how bad the leaking is, leaking hydraulic systems can be very dangerous (brakes) or leave you stranded (clutch) if they decide to critically fail. If the leaks are persistent you should think about moving them up on your priority leak.

Did the mechanic give you any more specific about which thermal vacuum switch was not working? There are a few and some may be more critical than others.

ToyoDIY has parts diagrams on line. These are good references to find out how things fit together and what parts are needed. I've found the prices listed are generally high, though. If you go to your local toyota dealer, you might find that they are not too familiar with the FJ60. I try to provide my counter guy with the part numbers I need, instead of making him look them up. Also CruiserDan from American Toyota will give discounts on parts for MUD members.

Good Luck.

im diggin your 60, i also just recently bought a 60 that is 98% rust free

All Cruisers work and play well together, buy as many as you like.

Or your SO will tolerate.

Thank you for the tips guys! I'll get some more pic's up tomorrow once I get all the SAP off.

Ewww....what a pain in the A. I've tried 3 different tar/ bug removers and rubbing alcohol. None worked so far, so I'll be calling around tomorrow to get some answers. I found some posts on Sap, but none had a surefire solution. If someone knows what works great, let me know. We're talking about 25 spots on the hood about the size of an eraser. I cleaned some off today with some major elbow grease and they appear to be through that paint in spots. I'll try and get pics up so you know what I'm talking about.

And I thought I'd let you all know what I do for a living/ fun. I coat items, specially firearms. I think I'm going to try and start a glass etching company. I put a post in the Chit-Chat section with lots of pictures.

Seems like a pretty nice truck well worth the money. I think what that aztec is squatting to do matches the color of the rig! Gack! "Hang around brown". Oh well, can't have everything :)

Stoner (apparently appropriate for this thread) makes a product called Tarminator. That or WD40 should take off the problem. Locally the tarminator is available at advance auto parts.

Cool to see another brown 60 in Portland. I just fixed my exhaust, so it's off to the DMV for a trip permit on Friday. Hopefully it'll pass inspection, then I can get plates at the DMV! What a great use of a day off!

(My NY registration expired. I've been living here for 1.5 years now. Guess I can get OR plates!)

I wish I had MUD when I bought my truck back in 2000. I spent too much $$$ at the local garage getting things fixed. It is all about the labor costs.

Buy the FSMs, then buy any special tools as you need them. It's been a great learning experience!

Treat him right, folks !!

Andy,

Best of luck with the 60. I do think you scored an excellent rig. Yes, this is Tom, the guy who sold it to you. I, too, am a closet member. Just haven't been here in forever. Great story you wrote about your search with your very good friend "cruisified", love that name. I truly hope it brings you many years of enjoyment. I am now cruiserless as you know, but maayyybee, just maybe, that 40 around the corner I was telling you about may become mine one day and I'll be back on here regularly.

At any rate, members, treat Andy with the best. You have just gained a true, caring member of this 'cruiser world. Thanks again Andy for bailing my -ss out in these dark economic times. I am truly happy that I could make someone's day and earn some dough in the process. I attached a pic of my only, true 4x4 left in my possession. My fallback, future, "Van down by the River" home in case I never get a job again:0).

Later,

Tom

Tom, hey! Good to see you on here. Since this thread is all chit and no chattle, I'm gonna throw out that your van is badass and that an A-team paint scheme would be saweet if you ever get rid of that wizard you have airbrushed on the back.

So I finally got some good pictures of the new ride. I am thrilled every time I get to go drive around town. She has been running great and I'm slowly tackling the list of things to be replaced/ worked on.

So far I've:
-Replaced air filter
-Vac lines
-Spark plugs
-Plug wires
-Rotor
-Distributor cap
-Wiper blades front and rear
-My friend installed a deck for me so I have tunes now.

I have the stuff to do oil change but the rain must stop first. Also need to flush the radiator but will replace hoses first. Then on to the big seals that need to be worked. This summer we'll tackle the minor rust spots and discuss painting options.
