I'm going to replace the upper and lower hoses on the radiator.
Is draining and flushing the radiator the same thing?
If not, what is the proper technique for the flussssssssh?
What are the (2) smaller curved hosses on the upper right side of the Rad?
Any tricks to this job on my 60?

no, not the same.
draining is draining
a flush usually means using a chemical in the system.
there's alot more hoses under there than you think.
doing all of them takes time and ALOT of patience.
get new hose clamps to replace possably the factory non reusable ones

don't have no fun ;)

If you want to replace all the hoses in the coolant system, you need to replace hoses associated with (1) engine cooling, (2) oil cooling and (3) heaters. As 2badfjs says, it's a lot of hoses. But worth it, depending on how old yours are. It's much easier to replace them in your driveway than along the side of the road. I paid about $150 from the dealer for all the coolant hoses.

Question...

Referring to the 3rd diagram...what does hose # 87246E connect to?:hhmm:

There is a metal pipe in the middle of the two piece lower radiator hose (see first picture). There is a little port on the metal pipe. That's where the other end of hose 87246E goes.

That's right....I remember that now...in fact, here's a picture of that piece.

Thanks!

You can do a simple flush of the radiator by squirting water in the top and just letting it run through for a while. You might be surprised what comes out.

I am not sure what you are referring to as far as the 2 small curved hoses. Could be heater hose, air injection, vacuum lines?

A few tips, don't cut the lower radiator hose down to get it to fit, just fight it till it goes on. Also go around after the hoses are hot and give the clamps a few more turns to tighten them.

Refreshing this thread- what's the best source and type of new hose clamps?

OEM Toyota?
Coolcruisers stainless ones?
Constant tension clamps?

Breeze Constant Torque Clamps for the win. McMaster Carr/

Just spent $180 for all the clamps needed for my LX. I'm dreading the cost it will be for the 60

Would you mind posting a Breeze part number list for the LX? I've got the PHH covered already with Gates Green Stripe and Breeze Constant Torques.

I prefer the ABA slotless 316 Stainless clamps from, among others, West Marine. They don't cut the hose like those with slots do. It is absolutely crucial that the clamps not have slots or sharp edges when using them on silicone hoses.
