It's not a wear/durability part like a ball joint or a bearing and it's not a performance part or a part that has to stand up to abuse so I'm finding it hard not to just spend $143 at RockAuto for a Walker stainless steel offering. I'm not really into "tuning" the noise it emits. If it survives 5 years I figure I will have been in the black for 4.

I went back and forth for a while on this...tried to just band-aid it up...Almost ordered a Northeastern, then tried to get a Borla but they only offer full systems...
Then decided in the long run not getting OEM would bother me....This is the only vehicle I've ever took this level of care with so might as well keep it up.

Best price I could find as of today was Lithia Toyota of Billings MT. Free shipping and discounted over MSRP...Local dealer wanted $850...Some online vendors have it listed for less but then charge for shipping.....Still a lot of money to spend on a chunk of metal....Really wish I could order from Partsouq ( at less than $350) and save massive amounts of money but import duties apparently will help save the world so I guess we all suffer for now....

Couple weeks ago, I was price checking and saw this post with 25 off, no tax, and no shipping. Was going get front control arms so good deal no shipping/tax. But appears this week discount no longer available, however I’ll periodically check on it on high dollar items as parts not getting any cheaper or even obsolete so I would stock up. I used Partsnext often, brought some suspension parts in Oct $380 plus shipping $60 plus import duty $65. Still worth it compared to Toyota USA.
.

Yeah, in this case I don't see the benefit of OEM...it's a low-risk item that is going to wear out no matter who makes it and they all dent the same out on the trail.
Yeah IDK I've done a few other mufflers in the past on other vehicles and everytime I go with the cheapy options they just don't last...I don't want to do this again in a few years and the cruiser will continue to get the OEM treatment

Lithia Toyota in Billings got it here in 4 days from the time of order which was impressive....It wasn't boxed though, only wrapped in a layer or two of bubble wrap and that may have led to a few dings but I think it will be OK

I still find it weird to see "Futaba" on this muffler. Futaba is a Japan based company that I know from the world of radio control.

That is legitimately sexy.

I agree. She weighs 38 lbs.

Would you be concerned with the few dents and dings that can be seen in the first pic , from a future corrosion perspective ? Seems like it got a little banged up in transit.

IDK but you could always hit it with some rust inhibiting spray...might burn off. If the dents aren't on a seam, I wouldn't worry about it.
Looking at the pics, yeah...naw I wouldn't worry about it.

Right on, thanks for that

Trying to save a few bucks and do this repair on my own.....How much of a bitch is it to swap out an old rusty muffler for a guy like me without a lift or any special tools?? I've replaced a few mufflers in the past but usually just on little cars...Doesn't seem to complicated on the 100 series, what issues might I run in to?

I went with OEM for my muffler replacement as well. Ordered everything during a 25% off sale. Still expensive but truck is whisper quiet compared to before.

I brought everything (muffler, bolts/nuts, exhaust gaskets) to my local muffler / exhaust shop to have them do it. I was in and out in less than an hour and it cost me a little over a hundred bucks. Not even worth attempting yourself if you can find a similar shop in your area.

Impex lists the muffler for $355.72, for what it's worth.
Yeah I hear that....similar pricing on Partsouq but w/ shipping added on and then import duties at 25% + whatever else they add on to for it being metal (depending on what HTS code they use ) IDK ,it sucks but its too late now... Gotta start soaking bolts and hopefully get this sorted out before winter

Total estimated duty on that 356.00 muffler from Japan is 187.00. 543.00 without shipping added. 651 dollars at Serra right now. 25% off sale would make it better!
