My girlfriend got me a NATO style jerry can. This is what she got.

Hopefully these are GTG. I was thinking of picking up a second one if they are good. But i am really having a tough time about how to store it. I dont want to get into the rear bumper with swing outs at this time. If they 100% dont leak or smell i could make a mount inside. But i dont think that is the best idea. I have a very nice Gamiviti rack and could mount them up there. Any suggestions about what rack mount to use? Some of them look nice but are a little expensive. Also would it be a bad idea to mount these laying on the flat side? It would get them so much lower on the roof. I could almost just use some straps at that point. Any ides or comments about how you mount cans on your 80 with out the swing out bumper?

I think front runner makes a fuel can mount that will work with those cans. But I'm not 100%. I have seen several setups with that style can mounted on the roof racks.

I have 4 of those and just use ratchet straps to tie them down to the roof rack. Made it all the way to AK and back that way. Look left.

DO NOT put fuel cans inside the cab.

Thanks for the feed back. I cant see the picture well to the left. Anychance you have some larger pictures of the setup? Did you lay the flat or on their sides?

If you do decide to go on the roof you may want to invest in a cheap transfer option with 6 or 8' of hose. Then you won't have to hall them down to fill up.

Details please....I'm picturing sitting at a gas station with multiple 5-gallon cans strapped to the roof rack being filled without having to pull them down....but how exactly does that happen?

 I think he means with the cans already full you can fill your gas tank up without hauling them down. Not filling the tanks while up there. ;)

^ This, you and a buddy are going to have to relay the full cans to the top of the truck. However, once they are up there a cheap transfer pump or even a hand pump will keep you from having to haul them up and down on the trail.

Jiggler siphon is the way to go if they're mounted anywhere above the fuel cap, quick cheap and easy.

Baja Rack makes a nice dual carrier for their roof racks. Would be easy enough to just drill some new mounting holes for your rack.

He's right the jiggler is the way to go. I wish I knew about it years ago. Super Simple, Super Cheap, works well.
Just make sure your hose will fit in your gas filler tube.
I'd go with largest tube that fit in filler neck or you will wait 5 mins to empty one can. If you can hide the jiggler external all the better so it doesn't stink your cab up.

There is another video of one emptying a 5 gal

I bought mine from lexingtoncontainercompany.com, the video there says it all but here it is for those that don't want to clicky.
