G'day Mudders, I've managed to get out to the shed over the last couple of nights and I'm pretty damn close to finishing the front axle. I used the top secret, 'two-stud' technique to line everything up. Worked like to a ripper.

Looks great! Just need to confirm if this is in fact the correct balance of plating versus black paint.

G'day Cult. I've been wrestling with the plating Vs paint ratio question myself. In fact, I've been losing sleep about it. How does one know if one has the right balance? Remember Saddam Hussein's guns. What happens if my truck starts to look like one of Saddam's shooters? Should I employ a stylist? I think I'll take some photographs to my therapist and ask him. Cheers Ben

Legitimate fears but the correct course of action, IMO.

I managed to get a couple of hours in today, in between cleaning out the gutters around the house and doing Lego with my 8 year old son.

I finished cleaning up the other front spring pack. This a dirty, dangerous job. The strands of wire from the wire wheel, shoot out of it like arrows. By the end of the session I looked an echidna (Australian - porcupine like beast). I then washed them down with steel wool and sugar soap. Tonight I hung them in my garden shed spray booth and gave them a coat of epoxy. Here are couple of before shots. (All things considered a pretty good way to spend a Sunday.)

Haha that's gold

I finished putting my brake callipers back together. Bolted them up and then fitted brake pads and new brake lines.

I have a question. The dust boots are held in place by a circular spring or clip. When I put these in place the ends of the circular springs don't seem to come apart and overlap. So, if I separate the ends they don't close up. They seem pretty happy with the ends meeting. I can't find any documentation about. Is this right or wrong?
