Hey PF - was doing a gearbox swap with catskinner today and your handle came up. Care to divulge the source of it's origins?

Good question Cult!

G'day Fellas, Eucalyptus Pauciflora or the Snow Gum. (A gnarly little tree that grows in Australia's sub-alpine areas.) My personal belief is that most people who use botanical names for plants are wankers and this is honestly the only botanical name I know. But, what can I say.......... I just like snow gums.

Well at long last the sun came out. The wind stopped howling and I happened to have the morning off work. So I dragged the chassis out of the shed and top coated it. It is far from perfect and the paint makes the pitting stand out. But overall, I'm pretty happy. At some point I will get some cavity wax or fish oll and slosh it around inside the frame rails.

I should have googled. So is it poor-see-floor-a? Cause we spent a good deal of a gearbox swap discussing the finer points of the pronunciation.

PF nice work on the frame mate! The shadowing of the sheet metal when reinstalled will help hide the pitting. At least that's what I tell myself about my frame.

Thanks for sharing the back story on your handle. If you had pictures of the snow gum it would help us Yanks out a bit.

Snow gums, also known as ghost gums.

Thanks for the image Claws and your pronunciation is spot on Cult. And another image for 76 FJ40. Generally, when I am surrounded by Snow Gums, I'm not working - Life is good.

G'day Fellas, I pulled the diff carrier out during the week. I was a bit worried that some of the media from the sand blaster had got around the tape, so I took it up to the local service station and gave is a good degreasing and high pressure wash. I also gave the housing a clean also It all looked pretty good. So I popped that back in today.

This afternoon I had a couple of hours up my sleeve so I reassembled the steering box with new grease seals. Refitted a couple of studs into the steering post and bolted it down. I then put a rebuild kit into the drag link and bolted up the pitman arm. Filled the box with 600ml of gear old and put a new breather. Looks alright, I reckon.

Christ you really are going all the way!

Quick update and a quick question. I torqued the pitman arm to spec tonight (130-140 foot pound). I have never really used a torque wrench before, but I was really swinging on it tonight. The nut is now seated where it was when I removed it. Looks better
