I had noticed that the diff was making a few unusual noises when I rolled Mario around and I can see a munched up seal or ring. So I will probably do a quick rebuild on the diff.

G'day, Not much, to report. I cleaned up the old gasket from the diff housing and diff centre and then prepped the rest of the diff ready to take to the sand blaster tomorrow.

Cleaned up the axles and then started cleaning up up the hubs and the hardware.

I also put got both front spring packs ready for top coat. I put them side-by-side, expecting one to be taller than the other. I was going to put the taller one of the driver's side. However, they exactly the same height. Not bad for 32 year old springs.

They've still got a decent arch in them - must be lower gravity the closer you get to the Antarctic!

G'day Zimmi,

Ah.......the shed. Yep, she sure is a ripper. I owe it all to my insurance company. My neighbour has a couple of 100 year oak trees on the boundary line between our properties. Last year one of them decided to split in half, falling onto my property and crushed a small garden shed and bent, beyond repair the larger workshopt.

Got a few things done. The diff housing and brake backing plates are at the sand blaster. I modified the little cart that the chassis is sitting on ready to install some springs and I got a bunch of stuff painted and cleaned.

I dropped the hardware from the rear diff at the plating place this afternoon, after spending an hour or so, in front of the wire wheel last night.

Crept out to the shed for a quick session after the kids the had gone to bed. Unpacked the front suspension shackles and associated bits and pieces and bolted the front axle into place.

The suspension bushes come with a little vial of 'High Performance Assembly Lubrication' (i.e., grease). Thank goodness I read the warning on the back of the packet, just as I was about to munch down on my first mouthful.

The springs went in without too many issues. I used the engine hoist to help support the axle while I lined it all up. Worked okay.

I still need to torque it all down and trim the 'U' bolts. But, overall I'm pretty damn happy.

Ben you know my fandom for the correct ratio of plated and painted parts, but a wise young fella once told me that cad plating [any plating in general] weakens the host material, and as such I'm wondering if it'd be wise to run a non-plated u-bolt?

G'day Cult, It's strange you mention this. The square topped 'U' bolt closest to the diff centre didn't come plated. So i might just leave it in black. Cheers Ben
