I've got a bit more prep to do on the bib. It had these really fine black lines all over it. These were under the paint. I took it down to my local painter and he suggested that I wipe it over with a phosphoric acid based solution. Leave it for 24 hours and then clean it down and go over the lot with a stripping disc.

Hey All, A quick update. Nothing spectacular, just plodding away. Fixing rust holes is a painfully slow process. I worry about warping the panel. So I put down a tack of weld. Wait until it is cool enough to touch by hand and then do another tack.......tack.....(wait until cool).....tack.....etc. Even small patches seem to take an eternity.

When I picked up replacement guard, it came with a spare apron that had a hole cut in it for a snorkel. I'm pretty sure it is for a Safari brand, so I thought I'd give it a paint and if I decide to fit a snorkel I don't have to hack up a good panel.

HELP NEEDED:

G'day All, I'm about to start work on my bonnet (or as you blokes say 'hood') and the brace on the right hand corner has completely rusted away. I was wondering anyone could post up a pic, so I have some idea of what I'm trying to make? Is it the same shape as the one on other side?

Same side.

The truck I photographed is a JDM BJ44 however. It was handy.

The process continues...........this time the bonnet. Apply paint stripper, scrape panel, hose panel. Apply paint stripper, scrape panel, hose panel. Up to three or four times. The sandwich wrap was a bit of experiment. It is meant to stop the active agent in the paint stripper from evaporating. I have used it previously, in the middle of summer to good effect. However, it was only 20 degrees celcius and made no difference. (Except to the kids, who had to go school with stale sandwiches!!)

I was having difficulty get all the little bits of old paint and surface rust from the guards, so I had them lightly blasted and got them into epoxy. Along with a few other bits, such as the bezel, spare apron and the braces that go between the windshield and the back panel.

I also bolted the cab back together. When I picked up the replacement tub the PO had removed the door hinges. I want to make sure they are in the right place before I paint it. It was also good to check that everything fitted back together. The roof, back panel, tub and windshield panel all come from different vehicles. It lined up okay.

How to remove the place defrost windshield vents: I was having a bit of trouble working out how to remove the black plastic defrost vents from the inside of the windshield panel. So, I did a quick search of Mud and 5 minutes later I had the answer.

Answer: Use a punch or some sort of similar pointy instrument to push the little pin through the plug and it will fall into the panel. Remove vents and then collect little pins. Bob's your uncle.
