I started cutting and trimmed the original panel and started to tack the patches in.

The support panel came out okay. The original piece is about 38 X 38mm. The closest I could get in box section was 40 X 40 X 1.6 mm, so close enough I reckon. I sliced the box section up and then welded on the horns from the mustard panel. I ground do the mustard panel and re-used the original square nuts. My welds are not as nice as the original Toyota ones, but close enough.

Beautiful work Ben. The cutting, thinking and grinding seem to be paying off. Your skill and craftsmanship never cease to amaze me.....keep up the great work.

G'day PG45er, Wow, thanks for the wrap mate. These comments mean a great deal to me. Especially, on cold nights. I don't think this old truck will ever be concourse, but at least I don't think it will rust again. Well not for another 30 years anyway. Cheers, Ben

Nice work on the bib, Ben! Digging the subtle custom work too ;)
MM will be under it's own power soon!

Righto. I attacked the drivers side guard. The bottom of the replacement panel was rusty and had been repaired before, so I chopped up the original panel, which, strangely had a good bottom but a very rusty top. Pics 1, 2 and 3 are the rusty bottom. Pics 4 is the good bottom.

G'day All, I have a quick update. I've finished stripping and cleaning up a host of little bits and pieces. Hinges, side steps, tranny hump cover, all the little things. I had the side steps and a couple of other bits sand blasted, but mostly I used paint stripper. Then a combination of wire wheels, stripping discs and finally phosphoric acid in the hard to reach places. The plan for tomorrow is give them a quick wipe with prep-wash and then into epoxy.

I also got into the world's dodgiest home spray booth tonight and gave it a clean up. I picked up some epoxy during the week and a new primer gun with a 1.8mm tip. I was going to try and prime them tonight, but it was the first real spring day my part of the world and the air was full of bugs, all zooming into the booth attracted by the lights. So hopefully tomorrow during the day their will be fewer airborne critters wanting to embed themselves in my paint work.

I got out to the shed today and shot epoxy primer on a few bits and pieces. Overall, I'm stoked. I missed a couple of spots, that I will touch up tomorrow night. I also watched a Youtube video and the painter used a couple of bits of masking tape to create a 'V' shape on the top of the pot so it doesn't go everywhere. It worked a treat.
