While this nonsense was happening
I was calling on this. Ugh. I check 5 times a day. Apparently this came out late last night. Cali buyer at 4 am his time bought on open. I was 1 hour late

No place like BAT to burn your hard-earned dollars. 😅

$100k lol at least the undercarriage is purdy.

I’ve been out of the loop lately. Can someone explain why 200s, and even the base models, are commanding such high prices right now?

Feel like it started earlier this year with HEs on BAT commanding ridiculous premiums. It's since spread out to all LCs.

Feel like it's part of a surge in demand for older, more analog, simpler (reduced-tech) cars.

Not unique to Land Cruiser. Sequoias for example are retaining value better than Land Cruiser (excluding heritage) ; same with 4Runner.

Some people like the older simple engine and think they won’t be made again and there are limited options for a long lasting tried and true engine.

There is a rumor Toyota will be reintroducing some v8 engine into the 4Runner. That would be interesting.

I think this wouldn't have happened if the modern engines were reliable but when they started self grenading and all toyota can say is dEbRissss....people want to start hoarding 5.7Ls.

It was a rocking start with the debris issue on the V35As, but now that it is resolved, IMO this trend will subside in the next couple years when the 2025s and up V35As get more mileage.

Similar trend happened with the 5th gen 4runners when they announced the 6gen with a 4banger. There was a surge in 5th gen prices and now that is pretty much gone. There are no 5th gen TRD PROs selling for almost $70k anymore and people are gradually warming up to the 4 banger and the many amenities of the new platform.

Of course, for the LC200s there is no direct successor like with the 4runner (as we all know a Prado is really a 4runner in different skin), but I have seen more and more LC200 owners trading in for the 300LX - especially the OT. This is increasing the offers of 200s around - especially at BAT where it seems every week there are two or three up for grabs. Depending on mileage and condition the maniacs come in with dumb money and battle to earn the highest-bid-trophy. o_O

Like with the5th gen runners this eventually will fade. The 200s will still command premium, but it will be the regular Toyota-tax we all see with other models. This kinda already happens with high mileage or even regular mileage 200s around - only the low mileage ones, relative to model year, are really commanding the stupid-money prices.

Someone else commented on the most recent 200 listing on BaT in response to the another comment about Toyota kicking themselves for not offering a V8 in their new gen 4x4’s and it’s one I happen to agree with. The market for people that are willing to pay well over $100k on an old Land Cruiser is very small group of people. As in the same 3-4 thousand folks who were buying them new here in the US.

Sales are on par or up with things like the Tacoma and 4Runner and at least in my local market the Prado is selling well and is still somewhat hard to get. All that to say I don’t think Toyota is kicking themselves at all. V8’s are great but they are not the end all be all of the automobile.

I just listed this one for sale if anyone is interested. It's pretty clean with minor surface rust. Drives great! 2020 HE w/ 48k miles, one owner, no accidents - $92,500.... that's MSRP folks. Who's buying?

New gx’s are $85k with pleather seats, a v6, and a 17 gal gas tank. LX’s are $130k, a v6 and a 17 gal gas tank. People are figuring it out. 8 year old LX’s are really holding their value. If I wanted to upgrade my 17lx with 100k miles, id have to spend $130k for an arguably inferior vehicle.

At the LX price point it should have a twin turbo V8. Other luxury SUVs offer that - Cayenne S, X7 M60i, etc.

Instead LX gets the same V6 as the GX which is $35k+ cheaper...

Hasn’t that always been the case for the LX against its “competition”? Falling short of similarly priced options that offer more luxury and more performance? I thought most folks bought the LX because it’s a Land Cruiser underneath the luxury bits.
