Last Fall I posted a picture of the R151F tranny that I had just rebuilt. Yesterday I finally finished up the companion transfer case, with a Marlin 4.7 crawler gearset installed. Prepare to drool...

better yet, take my R150 and give me that, I'll get it dirty for ya :flipoff2:

(Apologies in advance here..O/T Comment) So here's a stupid question, I am now wondering what the differences are in the center sections and why if I want a geared case behind my R150 in the forward shift configuration why I would need a marlin adapter...both center sections from the outside look the same, will the case just bolt up or not?

Nope, tc bolt pattern is different. I suspect you could bolt up a R151F tail housing to your R150F, but try finding one.

Ya, it sucks there are places outside the US that Toyota blessed.

For chuckles I looked up the extension housing, which Toyota calls a Transfer Adapter. I think the part number is 36117-35060. It lists for $251.96, which would be $188.97 from a discount dealer. That assumes they are not disco'd.

So, it might be possible to swap this to a R150F. I think more homework would be needed to confirm this. I'm willing to bet the shift forks and other guts inside are different.

That's really a shame. The R150 is very similar to the R151, they use the same specs and procedure to rebuild them, I believe they even share some bearings.

Ok then, factoring in the time/effort to do all of that then the price for a Marlin Crawler adapter starts to look really nice. Knixen, same thing goes for Central and South America, they made the 3rd Gen Trucks and Hilux DoubleCabs and 2nd Gen 4Runner's with similar specs pretty much up to the year 2000, but try getting them back into the states and the fees are astronomical for the part.

*[/O-T] :D Thanks for letting me go there and entertaining the conversation.

I tore it totally down, ran the case parts thru a parts cleaner at a local tranny shop, then I bead blasted them. Then I put on a coat of Rustoleum primer, followed by 3 coats of Rustoleum Matte Nickel. The paint is less about making it pretty, I'm really just trying to keep it from getting all corroded and nasty again. It was disgusting when I pulled it out of the parts truck.

Bahhh you make all your stuff shine!!!

I think its more to make the rest of us look bad :flipoff2:

OK, Ken, stop showing off your toy before you make me take it away from you!
