Will that corner be heated up by the nearby exhaust pipe?

Definitely thinking out of the box! I like it.

When it isn't full of tools, how does it sound? I wonder if the exhaust resonates in there?

I would add an undercarriage brace before I loaded it up and especially before wheeling it. Does the Al bow in the middle when fully loaded?

Few more ideas for ya:

-Rhino line the outside to make it scratch proof, soundproof, and add some insulation to the walls.

-Turn into a LARGE subwoofer enclosure :D

this is great, i wonder if someone will get a little itch to make up a few of these and sell them in the states

A great idea that was well executed :grinpimp:

Very nice job!!!

I've been thinking about this too. But one concern I have about designing it, is what will happen when the cruiser comes down on a rock on the storage box? So I was thinking of using a thicker bottom that has brackets to the frame so the box will not push up through the floor.

That is pretty sweet. I would definatly brace it for wheelin. So many uses. Way to go with that. Awsome looking final product.:D

Very nice! Great idea..and execution!

Hey, this is great! Nice job.

Since this has been revived, what would happen if you took this concept, and instead of cutting a hole in the floor, just dangled a tool box from the spare tire mount? No problems with unloading the truck, and it's portable for multipurpose.

Just a thought.

Thanks again for the comments;)

Does that chain spare tire winch mechanism work for you guys over there in the states?

I´ve owned a few toyotas, and this has never worked when I needed the spare tire. Always been rusted and stuck. Same story with all of my friends trucks.... both toyotas and other kinds og trucks with similar spare tire mounts.

Hmmmm....what about an upgrade to cable? I'm not thinking so much of using it for the spare tire as something different. Imagine the little crank being attached to a cordless drill for quick release. Or what about using hydraulic arms to drop it down? I get a little carried away sometimes. Sorry. I've often thought of this location and the space under the drivers seat as wasted space. They ought to be useful.

Of course, when you're stuck up to your rails in mud or rocks and need to get to XXX tool, and there is no access from above, you're just screwed. Never mind. Haffi, you did a GREAT job!

Just seeing this for the first time, and wanted to give you another pair of thumbs-up.
Well done.

This mod is tempting.
I'd have to lose my cargo box--but the damn thing weighs 80 lbs on its own anyway.

As others have said, I'd want to protect and brace it--I could see it coming down on a rock--and the force would be transferred directly to the body.

Bery bery nice.

I does work...however, I live in Chicago, and generally they use salt to de-ice our roads in all of the mid-western United States, so once a year I pull the spare down on my mini-winch thing and lube it to make sure it works smoothly and does not get rusted and frozen. If you don't do this on a regular, indeed when you need it it will be frozen, rusted, useless.

The cargo box is still perfect.

I´m not doing any rock climbing with my truck, but I have got stuck in snow few times with the box lying on the snow, no damage done. The trailer hitch is still the lowest part so when off-roading i´m scraping the ground with that instead of the box.

I had a little trouble when replacing the fuel filler neck, I had to cut the pipe to get it out. And replacing the hinges on the lower tailgate was also a bit tight ;)

The box is pretty insulated, I have never seen any moisture or sagging down there. I´m not hearing any noises or from the box . But it has been full of stuff from day 1, so I don´t know about what it sounds like empty. It must be full all the time, if not stuff rattles down there and that bothers me.

I cant think of any negative sides of this mod (other than mentioned above).

It looks great.
I am not clear on the LSVP issue. Did you eliminate the LSVP or you made it work with the box.
Any integrity issue with the body?

The LSPV has nothing to do with the box. Now I have replaced that old broken LSPV valve with a working one.

I haven´t had any problems with this at all. But, I have never had to remove the floor so I haven´t had a look at it. I might do that in the next few weeks since i´m thinking about repainting the truck. When I do that i´m going to remove all the carpets and clean them. If I do I will add infos to this thread.
