Well, few days ago I removed the floor boards from the back of the truck. Everything regarding this cargo box looks almost the same as the day I installed it almost two and a half year ago. There is no rust round it or any signs of cracks or fails in the floor.

haffi - as others have said that is great. First time I ran across this thread

Haffi, great solution to a very real problem. For wheeling purposes, this also keeps a nice an low Center of Gravity for heavy stuff. If I build a rear bumper and get a tire swing, this would be a great project. Thanks for the long term update.

I wonder if there are any pre-formed Stainless Steel sinks that could be used to drop in for a low budget bucket. Holes would need to be filled, but maybe an option.

Making the mod in AZ

As others have said this is totally incredible, excellent job. :bounce:  This is an inspiration to us all!! ;)
Thank you for all the details, and the information. I am going to have someone fab the box for me over the next 1-2 weeks, anyone in Arizona interested in getting another? I am finding out the cost PM me if anyone would like to do this mod and we can get 2+ boxes built hopefully at a discount! :meh: :grinpimp: This has got to be the coolest mod on ih8mud so far..

Id be interested in this also depending on price.

Thats a pretty interesting idea! I had thougth about using an old parts washer (has lid too)

Great job

Thanks for all the comments ;)

These are the dimensions of my box in millimeters.

It is 300 mm deep and made from 2 mm aluminium. I asked some guys about the strength, and I was told not to worry. It is strong enough. So I´m not adding any bracing to it.

..this is an example of a gift that keeps on giving. Mahalo!

Has anyone other than me done this yet?

If not, that is about to change for me. I am not sure if I will go with your particular design, but I am going to take advantage of all that wasted space down there and with five kids, this is a priority.

Thanks for the writeup!

that looks great! I have been thinking of using that area underneath for a utility box of some sort - without cutting, because my sleeping platform is over that area:cheers:! But, if you have a lid over that box, it will be awesome!

This is a very cool mod. I would absolutely destroy it :hillbilly:

It does bring to mind the idea of creating an in floor spare tire compartment, though, bolted up to the bottom of the frame rails.... :hhmm:

You did an excellent job on this...and I rarely say that to anyone. That looks really good...I am impressed.

I remember when you created this a few years ago. Good to hear it's still working great.

If anyone is thinking of figuring out a ~production version of this, I'm definitely interested.

blueprints?

Can you give some dimensions of your spare replacement box? I would really like to get the specs on this to make one for mine.

Sorry, just saw your diagram of measurements, how deep is the box, and how about some measurements of where to cut the floor out?

I feel the same way. I wish I had the skills to do this, I need the extra space...

You guys think this same design would work for the 100?
