Do you want me to send you the TRE I'm not using?
No, I'll stay with what I have, but I still need to know the pitch on a stock 60 TRE. the pittman I have, if it's an 80, has 1.2:12 pitch looking at the reamer thread you posted and ordered. Not steep enough for the TRE I have, I just hate to start drilling without knowing what i'm doing and hosing up this pittman arm that I do not want to take off the vehicle (I'm in the put together mode, now). Can anyone else help here?

I'll tell you what, why don't you pull off that pitman arm and send it to me this weekend with the shocks, with as fast as possible shipping. I'll pull off my pitman arm on sunday when I get back and send it to you in the same fashion. That way neither of us have to modify our pitman arms and we can move on with our lives. I'd need it literally by Monday, but I can send out my pitman just as fast. Sound good?

As soon as I read Mike's billie 7100 shock review, I will probably order those for the front and some 5125's for the rear.

The results are great so far. The 7100s with 400/80 valving are tight but not stiff and control body roll rather well on the road. I could drive sweeping turns on the freeway at 70 mph without a swaybar (I like the curves though). It's hard to say that this valving will be the best for you (the 360/80s may work well) but at least you know I'm happy with them in my setup and the nice thing with the 7100s is that you can adjust the valving. Off road they performed much better than the 5150s I had on it before and I didn't feel a hint of fade. I can tell I will want to to stiffen up the rear and I'll probably do that by doubling up on the 5125s.

Thanks man! I think I'm going to try a set of BBCS shocks from Poly Pro, and if they're too soft I'll upgrade to 7100's in front. I can get the set for 350 as opposed to two 7100's for the same price.

Just got the TRE mess figured out. I ordered a new TRE for the DS last night at vatozone, and just got off the phone with Luke @ 4x4labs to order the spacer to run an 80 TRE on the stock 60 pitman arm. Sweet.

why not get a 80 series pitman arm? Also if you get into a bind I have the Marlin arm that came with my high steer. I could get it in the mail priority to you in the am and you would have it probably tuesday.

thanks for the offer man. I ordered the spacer from luke at 4x4labs and I'm going to buy an 80 arm as well. The 80 arm has less drop and will be the trail spare till I get a chance to swap it out.

Johnny,
My redneck engineering worked fine, it actually drove tonite! No stopping yet, but we start with baby steps. I have the shocks, but no hardware survived. I had to dig to the bottom of the brew barrel to rescue the shocks. I'll have the wifey put them in the mail in the morn.

Congrats!! Post up some pics, I want to see my old axles in their new home. Also thanks for sending the shocks. They'll be a great temp shock till I can afford a perm set.

Haha, no problem. Thanks Paul! We'll have to go wheeling some time and I'll bring you more than a 30.

Update time!

First, I want to show you guys my new bumper! I sent Jim from SROR some pictures of other rigs that I wanted to have mine modeled after, and he has made me a VERY sweet bumper.

Kevin sent me his first production model antenna mount. Really slick, it's a firestick that mounts in the stock antenna location using a bracket he designed. The antenna feeds into a Matchmacker CB splitter to run FM. The install will happen later this week.

Nice bumper! Find some hippies to test it on. :D

 indeed. Damn hippies always, getting in the way. Have you seen that episode of South Park? Absolutely hilarious.

Here are two bad pictures of Moonshine in my driveway. I brought her home today!!

Updated to-do list.

  • Install new brake master cylinder
  • Alignment
  • New e-brake actuator cables
  • Diff breathers
  • Tranny crossmember clearance for front driveshaft
  • Shocks
  • Trailer SOA
  • Trailer paint
  • Steering Stabilizer
  • Sliders
  • Skidplate

So to fix the steering, I bought a cone spacer from 4x4labs that fits on the 80 TRE to make it the same taper as the stock 60 TRE so you can use the stock pitman arm. Did a rough alignment, installed temp 1/4" spacers on the front so the TRE's can clear the tires and took it out. I have some vibes once it gets up around 60, but I can't tell if it's because the tires are out of balance or I don't have shocks on it right now or what, but I think the rear pinion angle is correct. I have to mount the tires on their permanent rims and throw the beads in, then I can get a better feeling on the vibes.

So for CMCC, I absolutely have to modify the crossmember, install shocks, route the diff breathers and install the CB. Stuff I'd like to get done are the trailer SOA so it sits level, paint the trailer ( probably not gonna happen ) and fix the e-brake. I gotta see how much those actuating cables cost to see if that's going to happen.

In addition to that, hopefully my new bumper ships here before I leave so I can install that as well. Coming down to the wire!!!
