That makes sense. It does sit nice and high :)

Thing sounds meaty as heck. Mine probably sounds like a Prius in comparison haha

Thanks man! Definitely sounds better than the stock exhaust!

Don't know if I like that new exhaust, cant hear you coming from 10 miles away anymore :D
I'm still keeping my ears open for a spare set of 33s for you to run on the highway. Aside from the noise, those pitbulls are gonna drink the gas at highway speed. I've got the spare rims if anyone has the spare tires to loan ya.

That's true, with the old exhaust you could tell when I turned on to doc brown FROM Darin's:hillbilly:

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I'll keep my eyes open too. The price would have to be real good for that to work, so I guess we'll see.

Hold on a second, if we did that, would you be cool with bringing my tires there and back if I threw you some gas $? Laura and I are going to drive around the southeast for a while after the event and that would make the whole trip more efficient.

Do you get any vibration in the cab with the muffler welded directly to the cross section liken that? I know I did with my truck till I fabbed up rubber hangers.

I'll strap those tires to my trailer free of charge good friend. and carry a hand full of your spare parts. As I see it, I may be the one who needs to borrow a spare part on the trail.

Nice sounding exhaust man. Someday I can look forward to a sound like that too. Too bad I can't stop spending money on stuff that's not the 40. I'm looking forward big time to a week of red rocks.

...don't forget your SLIDERS!

No noticeable vibes from the exhaust. Did you use a flex pipe when you made your exhaust up?

Remember that I have a semi hard mounted DS motor mount and bias ply tires.

You are very kind sir, I owe you a case of your favorite beer:D I bought a 12v fridge so I can even keep it cold for you!

I fully intend to buy longs before the trip, so I should have two full sets of spare birfs + inner axle assemblies in addition to a third long side inner axle assembly. If everything goes according to plan, I'll have another axle built and installed with longs. That'll include a spare set of knuckles, a spare set of hub assemblies, spare wheel bearings, spare spindles, tons of nuts and bolts, spare front and rear springs, spare TREs ( do you use 80 series TREs? ) a spare pitman arm, etc. We should be all set.

Thanks Chris! Your 2F is rebuilt so when the rest of the truck is back together, it'll sound awesome:grinpimp:

Sliders and a skidplate are in the works, just you wait.

Started rebuilding my storage / sleeping system. Main project was decreasing the height by 2" to give more headroom and make it possible to mount my fridge on top.

It was starting to look a little beat up

Very nice! You plan to sleep on it?

Yes sir. I've slept on it a number of times, but it's getting rebuilt and improved now. With the 2" of headroom I should be able to sit straight up, which will be nice. The forward section is going to get built without the seats in place and wings will be made for the rear to give us the space between the drawer and the sides of the truck. Should be pretty cool, and comfortable, when done!

Nice, johnny! Does that coleman fuel canister come off, or does the tailgate clear it as it is?

The face of the drawer will be about 1/2" from the tailgate, so yes, the fuel canister does come off. I kept putting it on and off for fitment and realized that I didn't post any pictures of it off, probably because the only one I have is fuzzy. I know the cuts aren't perfectly straight, but it was my first time free-handing the router, so don't give too much of a hard time:D

The canister comes off and is stored inside the stove. The lid closes and has 1/4" clearance to the top of the drawer.

You are right, my edited list:

Front clip, long block, title, Moonshine's soul :grinpimp:

Storage box is looking good.
I like the stove too.

Thank you! It should be much more organized next time I go to cook something when we're camping.

Question about my new skid plate + transmission cross member. Since this is a 62 frame that I converted to a 60 driveline, I've got two sets of factory cross member mounts. I intend to use them to build a new skid plate and cross member. I've got the skid plate portion pretty much figured out as I'm going to do it all in 1/4" plate. My question is about the transmission cross member. Would 1/4" plate be thick enough for the transmission crossmember? There will be a couple of bends in it and I can gusset it from the back side, but I wanted to make sure I was going to build it out of a stout enough material. Last thing I want is to have the cross member bend badly or break out on the trail!

Thanks for the advice gents:cheers:

You will need something besides just 1/4" plate if it also has to hold up and support the drivetrain.

If it's just a skid plate then 1/4" will be fine.

I forget, do you have a Toybox? If so, you'll need support under the tranny and the Toybox, the transfer case hangs free off the back but still needs a skid under it as it hangs down.

No Toybox yet, it's in the works though.

Do I need to go as thick as 1/2" for the cross member? Think 2x2 1/4" wall tube would be stout enough?

Yes-more than sufficient.

Mine is 1.75 inch .125 DOM with a 1/4" skin . It's held up the whole truck before. I'll try and send you a pic when I can get home before dark and get under the truck.

EDIT: Nice Torpedo. I missed that. That is brewed just up the road from me. Good stuff to drink AFTER working on the cruiser. The 7% hits too hard to drink and wrench! I did not realize that Sierra Nevada had made it back to the East Coast.

Boxed 1/4" is plenty strong. I also have an extra crossmember position due to my frame swap and plan on making something soon too.

I have a bunch of other stuff to get to beforehand, so I might end up doing something similar to whatever you do.
