or did you upgrade the wiring harness and i missed it in your write up..
was debating about upgraded to a higher amp alternator but every thread i read, always that the stock wiring harness wont handle it..

When I upgraded to a 120 amp alternator, I wired it directly to the battery. That way, it's output isn't going through the factory wiring. The one down side is that the ammeter never shows it charging, only the electrical drain.

I've been running a Mean Green in my 1980 40 for a couple of years and love it. I upgraded my my battery main, starter, and ground cables to 0-gauge (technically not necessary, I just like overkill) and used 2-gauge from the Mean Green to the battery and the same to ground the case to the engine and frame. Works like a charm; no more dimming of any lights at idle, no matter how many radios and accessories are on.

I replaced my ammeter with a voltmeter and it works all the time.

I was thinking the same way as hellbent. Did you put in a painless harness?

I didn't change anything in the harness and never had a problem with the Mean Green. It was a great upgrade.

thanks box rocket for the info ..
