Monstaliner or spray paint?

Yes, fading is my biggest concern. I don't have a garage that will fit the 80 and live in CA. It's gonna get backed in the sun. I guess it doesn't really mater if it fades a bit. As long as it protects my body panels from branches, bushes, and rocks
FWIW the bloke who bought my Monstalined 4Runner had a small collision with it 2 years later. We ordered the same color Monstaliner for the repair, and it was a total match. We applied the new color over the repaired panels, and didn't see any evidence of color-fade. I was impressed that the color match was spot on!

Correct, Sans Panties. In the sun it looks very yellow. In the shade it looks more like baby-diarrhea-green.

Yep -that's the one!
In cse you're curious what it would look like switching the Pyroclastic with WW II OD Green...

and when doing two-tone, a panelbeater mate of mine suggested that if one adds a pin stripe, it makes a world of difference. Compare these two pics:
first with no pin stripe
compare -no pin.webp

now with pin stripe
compare -with pin.webp

it just adds a touch of class

(sorry for the 4-Runner pics. I haven't got around to doing my 80 yet). But I love that color Sans Panties!!!

Oh that is nice! Didn't think OD Green would look good against Sans Panties but it does, especially with that stripe!

I'm always of the mind of going after "How's she look from 20 feet?" (the truck; otherwise, be careful), because once you've done a project like this after awhile you stop staring at it with a magnifying glass and...it just looks like your truck.

I have a similar viewpoint. Mine is "I want it to look less $hitty!" :grinpimp:

I've been trying to figure that out. I guess sans panties does end up equaling 'with diaper', but why the reminder?

Well things have a way of working out! Don't need help making this decision anymore. This past weekend I was out hunting on the ranch and was rushing to get to prime spot in time for evening magic hour. Managed to catch the dumb trim panel on a log sticking out into the road. It ripped the trim right off.

My wife was pissed at first! Thought I did it on purpose as an excuse to spending a bunch of money most alining the truck. She has since come around though. I'm working on getting the rest of the trim off. Does anyone know how to pull out those annoying metal fasteners without having part of in fall into your door and thereafter rattle forever?

Other questions in regards to prep. I need to take all my mirrors and door handles off right? Also, what is the best way to patch the holes? I read a ton of threads on this but their didn't seem to be a consensus answer. I'm dreading how much it would cost to get them professionally welded up.

Just use trim fasteners and coat over them. The plugs look cool.

Zoom in and you can see mine (not the black spots, under the liner). Been there for 12 years.

Thats awesome! I'm all for the low cost approach as I have a long list of things to spend $ on to get my rig ready for an extended trip I'm taking.

When you mean trim fasteners do you mean the pile i just ripped out and threw away? Can you just get these from auto zone or something?

The previous owner of my 80 did the flare removal and trim fasteners, and back when my 80 was white he found white ones so it was good with factory paint, too. So my experience isn't searching and buying, but it's absolutely effective and super low cost.

So a trim type fastener like you can get at an auto parts store that will attach in the holes and sit flush is all you need, especially since you're going to line over it anyway and won't need to worry about color matching.

The hard part I think would be figuring out hole size to fastener fit so maybe a bit of trial and error, but maybe if you could figure out the key search words on Amazon I bet there is a lot of 'hole plug fastener' stuff out there.

Others have used the metal HVAC foil tape and painted over it without issues.

Do people bondo over the HVAC tape?

No, the tape would be over the hole and lined over it. The liner will provide the durability and minimize the visual sighting.
