Monstaliner or spray paint?

I'm getting ready to do mine in the next couple of weeks. I was leaning towards Raptor Liner and spraying it. I want it a little smoother than Monstaliner, is my rationale. What say everyone?

My raptor is still pretty textured, but haven't had it side by side with a monstalined job. Hard to say. I didn't do mine, but know it was sprayed on. Its not bad IMO. You can tell. SO far been great.

Yeah. I'm not expecting it to be glass. And frankly, don't know that it matters any. My 80 is green. Anything will look better than now. Well, except burgundy...

Did you use Linex?

Durabak. This is a funny re-read now that everybody is lining their 80's. I must be cool now.

The New Avocado

It doesn't look too much like the original coating, and the rubber granules do hold dirt in the places that take road spray. Not that I care, but that's pretty much the Monstaliner point in that you can get some texture without the granules. And the rubber does seem to oxidize or whatever rubber does over time.

So I'm due for a re-coat myself. It looks like this 8 years later during a good monsoon with no washing.

Better with the skis :D

And I have to figure out if a coating like Monstaliner that seems more like a shellac will coexist over Durabak. There's no doubt any of this stuff will stick, but it's what the rubber will do underneath...

Any evidence on raptor liner being smoother than sprayed monstaliner? I'm in the same boat, I don't want that chunky oatmeal look. I haven't seen either in person, but I'm leaning towards spraying monstaliner. He's (magnetman) been developing new colors for a year now, getting tired of waiting on that. I want a darker blue to match my factory color better than the current ones.

I can take pic when the sun decides to come up.

I already know my resale value is near zero (312k miles, been totalled twice), but I prefer the look of scratched paint over bedliner--just my personal preference.

Sharing pictures. 15 years ago, my LC 62 textured paint job

Cool, please do a close-up :). Most pics I've seen of either are whole vehicle and it's hard to tell what the texture looks like.

I'm always of the mind of going after "How's she look from 20 feet?" (the truck; otherwise, be careful), because once you've done a project like this after awhile you stop staring at it with a magnifying glass and...it just looks like your truck.

I have a real problem with putting my work under a microscope lol. There's a few drywall patches in my house that I textured and they don't match very well. It disgusts me everytime I walk by it, and I'm probably the only person that ever sees it :(. Then again, that's why I bought a 20 year old vehicle. I knew it was going to get a little roughed up :)

I've only "heard" that Raptor is smoother. I haven't seen either in person.

Whatever I put on my 93 will be better than it is now. It's freaking green! Also, Scratches and salt do not mix well.

I don't mind it being orange peel looking. Just don't want it looking lumpy.

I used raptor on mine and just shot it using the gun how it was set up out of the box. It's my understanding that it can be adjusted to give you a smoother texture. I love the way mine turned out and have 0 complaints.

Up close. Nay is correct. From 10ft even, you don't see any texture. This is was sprayed on 2-3yrs ago. No fading I can tell.... but it is tan lol.

Is the door handle really rough feeling? That looks very course, but otherwise looks nice and even. I really like how it looks from just a few feet away. I think just getting nice even coating is the biggest thing. Having random chunks in it looks awful, yours doesn't have that and looks great!

"Textured" yes, rough I would say no. I have never noticed it getting in. Its not abrasive by any means.

Let me put it in another way, the sliders were done as well. Getting in and out lifted 80 with sliders with shorts on ;many can attest to if you use grip tape or other grip methods you chafe your calves and shins. I have never had that with this texture.

I rolled mine - and it was pretty smooth. You can get a rough texture if you wait until it partially dries and re-roll Oatmeal is actually a pretty good way to describe it.
