@Christian im about to do the same as you. 60 series knuckles onto a hj45, do the 40 series TRE match the 60 knuckle arms? What did you do for flexible brake lines?

I used 70-series knuckles/hubs, but they are identical to the 60-series ones. For the flexible brake lines I used Part #96910-32305, Flexible Hose No.1 (Front). You'll need one for each side obviously.

Brad, AFAIK the 40-series TRE are all one size smaller than 60/70 series parts. 40 TRE needs a tapered bushing to fit tight in the 60 knuckle arm. Or custom steering linkage that is 60 series ends with 40 series lengths. Or your 79-newer fj40 arms might bolt onto the later DB knuckles.

Does anyone know any reason why I could not use my 1966 axle housing to do the minitruck swap?I have all the minitruck parts.I still need to source an upgraged 3rd member.any help would be great.thanks.

I had the same axle housing. It's ball and claw and the axle shafts are 6 spline. It also uses a brass inner axle seal that I believe is NLA. I'm sure you COULD use it, but now would be a great time to upgrade to stronger components that are readily available.

No you can not use this axle, you will have to source a later style axle that uses birfields.......

Excellent article, thank you!
