If you search Google Images for "Tire chunk jeep", you'll see that kind of damage does occur.

Pro tip: "Tire chunk Raptor" returns no results.

Looks like a very well placed sharp pointy razor blade

You've brought up a very interesting point, it seem that we have some tree huggers in my state that don't like 4X4's using off road trails.

There has been more then one report of "someone" hiding/burring Caltrops made out of rebar on some of our most popular trails.

They have even been known to paint the Caltrops to Camouflage them, so they blend in with the color of the trail your driving on.

Who knows, my tire damage may of come from one of their hidden traps. For those of you who don't know what a Caltrop is, or what it looks like, I've included a photo of one below along with a link to a history Net article.

I've got a set of these Patagonia M/Ts in the 37x12.50r17 flavor waiting to go on my 96 80 series... Hoping for good things. They're replacing a set of very lackluster BFG KO2s in the same size.

As for the enviro-terrorists - I'll never understand how it's OK to them to destroy personal property and very possibly harm or kill another human being all in the name of "activism" or the like.

I have these tires in a 315, they seem pretty nice for the price. Hopefully mine don’t start spitting out tread blocks lol
The set I have balanced pretty well, and they are very quiet for a fairly aggressive M/T.

LOL wait till you see my last...before its deleted.

I just wanted to update everyone, Walmart replaced my damaged tire today free of charge. The only thing i had to pay for out of pocket, was for a new road hazard warranty on the new tire, and that only cost 10 bucks.

I‘ve been following this thread as part of my tire research, just hit the deck for the 315’s from Wally World and will buy the road hazard after seeing this. I’m trying to keep the cost of my truck‘s transformation as manageable as i can and these look like a good value. @Riffleman thanks for the write up!

I put my tires to the test this weekend after about 3000 miles of on road use. Very muddy trails and the 315 milesstars bite like crazy, outstanding tire for the price.
