This whole ordeal started a few weeks ago. I was driving on the street when suddenly my 06 LX lost all power and the engine shut down. I restarted the engine and it drove fine with the exception of CEL/VSC/Traction Off lights on. At home cleaned map sensor and throttle body, disconnected the battery to reset the lights, truck drove fine. Fast forward to this last weekend, just completed transmission flush and while waiting for the tranny to get to operation temp (techstream connected) my engine suddenly shut down again, tried restarting several times, worked for a few seconds then shut down again. Disconnected techstream and tried again, this time it started and kept on running with MIL and VSC lights on. Scanned it for codes and this is what came up. I checked/ cleaned MAP sensor, checked wiring for damage, everything seems to be ok. MAP sensor looks newish with QR code on it which means it has been replaced probably not too long ago. Should I replace it again? O2 sensors? Any other ideas?

It’s seems like lots of things can trip the CEL/VSC/Traction Off lights. I was having a similar issue with those lights coming on and slight engine stumbling. The issue turned out to be as simple as a dirty aftermarket air filter.

The air filter (Aisin) is new, not sure if the MAF sensor is Toyota branded. Will give it another look tonight. Any other ideas?

Yes, the VSC OFF/ VSC TRAC light is thrown under many conditions per the FSM.

Similar thing happened to me right after I got mine. Code P0101 though. New Hitachi (OEM) MAF fixed it. Bet that one is aftermarket and kaput.

Still waiting for the sensor in the mail. Drove it to work (15min), parked it. 30 min later needed to run an errand, truck started fine but one block later stalled again. Tried starting it 5-6 time to no avail. Waited 30 min and it started right up wit CEL/VSC OFF/TRAC. Did some more checking and found rodent damage on this wire. Anyone know where this wire goes and what is it responsible for? and most importantly how do I repair it?

Yep, it looks like it's the injector connector. Thank You! I'll inspect a bit more at home and and see if I can heat shrink it as is or if I need to cut it and solder it then heat shrink it.

I would not drive or run engine, with a MAF sensor DTC. Bad MAF S will damage CAT fast.

I use all in one butt solider heat shrink, for splicing Fuel injector wire.
BTW: As a rule. Disconnect battery neg cable before working on any wire or even unplugging a wire housing block

Made it home ok, no stalling. Took out MAF sensor, looks like some aftermarket low end crap. Ordered all in one soldering butt connectors from Amazon, should be here tomorrow.

Toyota/Lexus (and I assume Scion) vehicles are very picky when it comes to MAF sensors. They only like genuine Toyota MAF sensors.

Since you've a VVti. While under the hood.

Also, if you are seeing signs of rodents in the engine bay, it's very likely that they have a nest under the intake manifold. It's a common spot for them to hide away.

Yes, I've read your thread a while back and was planning on doing something about that. Most probably will go with HTHewitt for a piece of mind.

Oh, this is an off-road use only rig.

Yep, when I first bought it I had to vacuum out all of the crap that mice build in there, made mostly from engine cover lining.

Ok so the new Toyota/Hitachi MAF sensor was installed on Sunday. Car ran fine for the most of the Monday until I got dreaded MIL and VSC lights again. Hooked up to the computer and got these codes now. Bad O2 sensor?
