Buddy just afvised me RE: POR15.Guys, if you really want to paint it and have it rust proof, sand it down with some rough sand paper, like 120 grid at the finest, these are sliders they don't need to be smooth. Clean it well with rubbing alcohol, and then coat it with POR15, a couple coats if you have time, when that dries, it's hard as a rock. Let it sit for a day to fully cure, then sand that down a little then rattle can your favorite finish and clear coat it. That should keep the rust off until you grind them over a rock.
I'm interested in getting in on this with a set of sliders for a 200. Then I saw the shipping quote for $416, can this be right?
Ive got oem front flaps and im going to just take my dremel out and notch the backside of flap, should work perfect, just cut a rectangle at the top to let the slider slip in. Take your time and it should look nice. Gonna order my sliders friday.I'm ordering tonight! But do you have any short enough to accommodate front flaps on a hundy?
Do it once, do it right.@helocat just wanted to say these sliders look great and very well made! Haven’t had a chance to install them yet because my truck is in the shop, plus I still need to paint them.
I have a few 4 ounce cans of POR-15, and a box of Rust-Oleum Rust Converter/Preventer (matte black finish, spray cans). I’m trying to decide how much effort I want to put in to protecting them / painting them. I’m tempted to clean them and skip the POR-15, and just hit them with several coats Rust-Oleum rust converter/preventer. I used the Rust-Oleum on my gas tank skid plate and it’s still rust free after one NE winter.
What is your recommendation for the OPOR sliders?
Also, thanks again for doing this group buy!
This is Helocat after the groupbuy is over
@Slashzero and others:
How to paint raw sliders, at least the way I do:

Thanks! I just picked up some:
1. Rust-Oleum Automotive 12 oz. Self Etching Gray Primer Spray
2. Rust-Oleum Automotive 12 oz. High Heat Flat Black Protective Enamel Spray Paint
I’ve been meaning to clean up and paint my calipers at some point anyway.
Note: Rustoleum also has a glossy clear coat spray, but it has terrible reviews.
Why do you recommend using the cheapest powder laundry detergent possible? I hade Tide powder which I use for laundry.
Not recalling my chemistry off the top of my head, but how about borax, baking powder or washing soda?We want as much harsh Alkali as possible and as little to no extra stuff. Tide has perfumes and extra stuff to make the laundry soft and not get so ripped up. Cheap stuff is harsh alkali so what we want for our steel.
You can try to track down powdered Alkali to but this is the easiest and cheapest way to get the 3oz or so that you need for one set of sliders.

Did that to my OPOR sliders last year. It's possible (probable) I just did a bad job, but they look like HELL after a single salty winter. Live and learn...
