I think rockdoc was showing how he will get the piggie home across the border.
He is delayed 1 day to a screwup on my part in getting the paperwork to the border.

The pics were bringing my other 62 home from Dan's in California, I guess I should have spelled that out. I'll be bringing Spot home the same way flat towed behind Wobble, albeit a much shorter distance.

The delay is on my shoulders for not checking more closely on the customs requirements... At any rate, a day delay isn't a big deal.

Great job, how was it getting across the border?

Looks like you could maybe use some glass?

Let me know, I've got some spares. Trade ya for a DS mirror!

Actually I've got a few spare parts, let me know if I can help.

Trip back went well. Towed nice. Spot got a few admiring looks from old school kind of guys. A few dismissing looks from others. :flipoff2:

Border crossing went smoothly, just took a bit as the Canadian side was busy. I'll have to have a look at the parts pile and see what I have to work with for the driver's door/window. The upper frame is missing from the door on it, but I believe I have another frame that could be attached, and also have a set of the later non-vent window doors. .... Paul sent me off with lots of extra parts so an inventory check is in order. :hhmm:

spotted you towing the pig on #3 just south of nanton. It was a beautiful sight. All I can say is I'm super jealous of your trucks.

Thanks

What were you driving? I remember someone in an 80 rubbernecking before Great Falls, on this side of the border I think an FJC, another 80 and maybe a grey 60. :hhmm:

I was southbound in a tan toyota pickup on 37's. Pretty sure I saw you in the Crowsnest on May long also with a 40 and another 60 series cruiser.

Ah yes, at the gas station in Blairmore? Was out with Ratpuke and Arnott1 then. Sorry I didn't get out to say hi, I buggered my foot/ankle that morning and it was a few days before I was anywhere near mobile on 2 feet again.

No problem. We'll have to meet up sometime, I would like to check out that 55.

Put the grill in Saturday, got all the loose bits packed safely yesterday for the trip to Manitoba (you know, like doors and such), and picked up a SM420 for $50 today. Should be headed east tomorrow. Looking forward to having the space to lay everything out, figure out what I still need to track down and start scheming. :)

Thought I would do a quick update since its been 5 months.

I pulled the 55 back to Manitoba and parked it in June. I spent most of my time there doing upkeep work on the farm that my mother inherited from my uncle last winter, so not much of substance done cruiserwise. I did get the SM420 rebuilt and am working on a homebrew adapter plate to the 3-speed case.

The big accomplishment hobbywise was getting quite a bit done in converting an old grain storage building into a shop/garage including redoing the roof and replacing the rotten bottom plate on one side. The cruisers are now stashed in there for the winter while I am back out in Calgary. Before pushing the 55 in the shop we tried dropping the 3FE in it to check fit. Found that the manual steering box and 3FE manifolds interfere, so after taking a few reference pics we pulled it back out to deal with next year. We also hooked power up to the rooftop spot light... it works, and it is pretty bright. :)

Now back to making some $$ to spend next summer.

There are 4 quarters between my mother and aunt. The home quarter with buildings and machinery went to my mom. The land has been rented out for at least a decade... I have pipe dreams of getting enough machinery back in shape to work it myself or with my brother, but don't know at this point if it will happen or is even feasible. If I'm back there next summer, I'd like to put my time into the cruisers and servicing machinery now that most of the building and yard upkeep has been taken care of this past year.

I would go with the 465. Lots of parts, bulletproof and you can't beat the 6.32 low range and it is synchroed. I know some people here think it is "clunky" or "doesn't downshift well" but I haven't experienced that. I am not a "purist" and think that you are right on with the 1:1 with 35's with stock diffs, and having to regear, for an overdrive is pointless if you already have the granny 1st. And contrary to some beliefs the plate adapter can be done and does work well. I have done it and was very pleased along with many others. Not to mention very cheap.

i don't have any issues with plate adapters..i have issues with classic cruisers plate adapter. it was poorly manufactured. my woody plate adapter was spot on;)

Four quarters is a full section aka square mile, and a typical section is 640 acres, but there is no such thing as a typical section. Belive me, I have surveyed hundreds.
