HWY 97 South, turn right a couple of miles before Clinton onto Meadow Lake Road. :D
GG

You could get there using backroads, I believe there is a turn around 100 Mile that brings you in from the north towards Gang, a map would be good.

I'll make another map for you. Basically, you just head south for Clinton on 97. Then near Chasm on your map, you turn right at Meadow Lake Road and then follow my map. Don't you have GPS yet?
Actually, there might be another way in from the north, through the Big Horn sheep sanctuary and the Gang Ranch. Stay on the main road through the Gang Ranch and don't take the road along the river because it dead ends in creeks and fallen bridges.

I'm Ok guys, thanks though, I was just joking around. Last week when it was slow, I google earthed the heck out of that place and found there is a road that turns off the highway before the meadow creek road (north of) that I can take. I am sure I'll find it.
Cheers,
Deny

I went in from 100 mile a few years ago. There are a lot of connecting old logging roads and happily I never had to backtrack from dead ends, probably just lucky. There are very few signs that actually make sense comparing to my old recreational atlas leading to Dog Creek.

From the north you might be better off turning west closer to Williams Lake. The tow truck that came for Rod's truck said it was not a bad drive. Going to Chasm would be a lot of backtracking.

Yeah I see my two options would be either from williams lake go south on dog creek road right down to dog creek, or go down the highway untill enterprise road, then head west to dog creek, I am leaning to more gravel travel though, so dog creek road might be the way to go.

Is there a gas station in Dog Creek (long shot)? might have to take a few gerry cans if I tank up in williams lake.

I didn't see a gas station, but they should have a tank you can buy some fuel from on Friday during regular daytime hours. I think others have bought diesel there?

MIKE , THAT worn out tranfer case looks like this,Ya an ORION will work but from what my friend in OREGON has one and he said stick with what I have,6000 miles when I got it from head to toe.... ....The last pic is what came out of it WTF is that burnt gear oil

Aaron, no worries man. I didn't think you'd be ditching that setup so soon, your friend is right about sticking with it. I just wish my truck had a set, and if you were convinced they were no good I would have been more than willing to help you get rid of them!:D

Are you still using 85-140 gear oil in your truck? Wonder if that's got something to do with the residue in there....:hhmm:

Anyways, still hope to see you all at Churn, I'm going to try to swap the 4:11 3rds in before the trip. We'll see how much I can get done within 5 days (wed. - sun.) , don't want to leave without a workin' CB either. Talking to yourself gets a bit boring after a while.

Oh come on, when's the last time you had time for a real good conversation with yourself :flipoff2:. For me it was a 16 hour drive in my 40 up to FSJ with no radio, ran out of stuff to talk about...

Dog Creek might have diesel, I think Rob Millson got some there a couple of years ago, but long weekends are unpredictable.
Re your route: From Williams Lake, take highway 20 South. Just before Riske Creek, turn left towards Becher House down the Big Creek Road (Farewell Canyon Rd.) .
Stay on the 2200 road towards and through Gaspard Camp, then left at 3100 Road and past the Gang Ranch headquarters. When you get to the top of the hill overlooking the Fraser Canyon, go right along the river Empire Valley road, down the hill, across the Churn Creek wooden bridge, and we are there at the riverside campsite.

I already talk to myself enough while I'm at work, and it always seems to turn into the same never ending, worn out blah, blah, blah..... one of the best parts of getting out with the club is hearing what others have to say. I don't want to wait until we all stop in one of those wierd trail brakes everyone seems to take now and then. Maybe with a CB the breaks will make alot more sense! And if I don't want to listen to what someone is talking about (while on the CB) I can just turn it off.

For those coming from Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, which is the faster route, the No. 5 or the Fraser Canyon. I have checked the total kms but that means basically nothing when one considers the construction zone near Merritt (single lane for 20 k last WE) and the hills on the Coq with a NA "naturally exasperated" truck loaded down.

I have driven the Coq to Kelowna the last few weekends and my temp needle keeps climbing up there to the 3/4 mark on the hills. Then, when I'm going down hill at around 140 kph it moves down to 1/4 (where I'm feel more comfortable). The people in tractor trailers and rv's are quite confused with my erratic speeds. This tells me they've never driven a 3B-powered truck up the Coq. ;) Anyone have some advice for me? Also, once every so often both the gas gauge and the temp needle absolutely pin it and max out. I've heard some mud chat regarding this peculiarity. . . should I ignore it or address it. If so, what do I do? BTW, the rig I'm taking is my '85 BJ70.

Can't help you with parking Bruce, never been there, but I can tell you Justin my view on which route you should take. I have driven up the canyon a million times in my 3B, and I still think that is the fastest way to go. the hills and turns slow you down a bit, but I find if there are no retard drivers around you, you can usually get good runs at the hills, and you will be suprised how fast the canyon can go.
my 2cents.
Cheers,
Deny

Justin,
I'd take the Canyon, more direct and besides the Jackass mtn. grade heading north the uphill climbs are relativly short until you start the climb up to the Cariboo plateau. Besides, there are way more trains to watch in the canyon so that makes it a no brainer.

Having your 3B at high coolant temps for long periods of time is pretty unhealthy for it. When I KO'd mine, I borescoped the combustion chambers and found 3 of the four pre cups cracked. What causes them to crack is excessive heat. If I were to NDT the head, I wouldn't be surprised if it is cracked. After I replaced the old leaky 3 row radiator with the 4 row, it never did loose coolant so it might be alright. Anyways, guys who have put EGT probes on NA 3Bs have found the temp will climb pretty high and quickly with the stock exhaust system. An upgrade to something like Matt has under his truck will let the eng. expell the exhaust/heat alot quicker.

The best option is to replace the 3B with a 13B-T with a 2-1/2" free flowing exhaust (no muffler) and you will stay well within acceptable coolant temps and you can do 140km/hr uphill as well as down. Okay, not quite that fast.:D My temp indicator never goes more than 1/3 of the way up the arc.

When your gas/temp needles "pin it", do they do it at the same time? Does the fuel qty. indicator max out on level ground or only on hills?

Have you taken apart the gauge cluster and inspected the individual indicators? My oil press. had a burned element from being used with a 24V oil press. transducer. Easy fix once I found it.

Thanks Mike and Deny. That's that, I'm taking the Canyon, pretty scenic anyways . . .trains, historic sites, variation in landscape.

And I'll have to address the temp concerns before take off.

Thanks Norm!!:) I ain't worrying about it then.

Does your temp needle creep up to the 3/4 mark on long hill climbs? Maybe I have a plugged rad or the cooling system is comprimised somewhere else. . .or maybe I'm pushin' her too damn hard.
