I'm having a problem with the carb accelerator rod (51) coming out of the carb bushing (50) when I press on the throttle. I am not sure if it's connected correctly but would like your suggestions. There is a cotter pin on the end of the rod which may not be correct. I have a photo of the 81 and an 83 FJ40 below. It looks like the pin may not go over the ball on the rod at all but may clip the bushing instead to keep the rod in place. Can someone with a 81 or later take a look? I can get new bracket or rod or both but don't think it's a part issue.

Thanks Jim! This one was way easier than I had anticipated thanks to the ability to look at the 83. Once I pulled the pin off the rod and put it back in correctly the issue was totally resolved. I just got the Cruiser delivered and the carb has recently been rebuilt but if they couldn't get this back together correctly, I wonder what other surprises I'll find :-)

Post some pics of the carb and I'll tell you what's out of position.

I'm also having a problem trying to put a hitch pin in to secure the rod. Mine is exactly like the photo attached. The only pin I could find locally is a 3/32" hitch pin. It takes considerable force to slide it in place but once there it slips towards the rod and everything disconnects again. I'm thinking the tangs on the receptacle are slightly damaged or worn or I'm using a wrong sized pin.

The correct pin is 25mm long by 1.5mm diameter. In American, that's 1" by 1/16".

Can anyone show me bracket # 55 shown in diagram above, and where it attaches?

Bracket #55 for 81-later 2F.

Bracket #55 installed on a desmogged (for better visibility) 198x 2F.

Thanks Jim, that sized pin worked. I put a couple spares in the glove box also. ed
